Okay, let me throw my hat into this one...

So, how many of you folks who say the movie sucks (it IS bad, critically speaking, don't mistake me) are Xenomorph fanboys? The meat-and-potatoes of the matter is a good majority of the Alien fanbase felt alienated (no pun intended) by the movie because the Xenos got pasted. I've actually argued with Alien fans that the movie "doesn't have real aliens in it 'cause they got their asses kicked too badly." I'll grant you a trite and overused plot and cardboard characters, but the overall acting isn't THAT bad. No worse than the acting in the original Alien (and yeah, I'll go on record as saying the acting in it was shit, overall), at the very least.

Does the film fail overall? Sure, if you don't know what the intention was. The film was created to be the polar opposite of the first AvP. It was designed to appeal to Predator fans who were pissed over the poor treatment of the Predators in that movie. Best described, it was a Predator movie with Aliens thrown in for cannon fodder.

Did it suck? No. Was it bad? Oh, very. Was it enjoyable? Sure, as long as you like a Predator slaughtering everything in it's path. As I said... it's not an AvP film, it's a Predator film.

Does that mean the first AVP didn't have real Predators because they were crushed? Regardless, I love both franchises and can't decide which species I prefer. The sheer ferocity of the Aliens and the high tech power of the Predators are both just awesome. I hope we'll get better films from them both down the road. I wasn't too impressed with Predators and I don't think Prometheus counts as an alien film. I didn't find the former bad though, just mediocre. If they make another video game I hope it takes place on Xenomorph Prime. How awesome would that be? Especially if we have Predator warships nuking the place.

The PredAliens are basically small Queen's in the AvP films, meaning they're extremely powerful. Even the most experienced Elite Predator is going to have a hard time on his own. Wolf did the best he could, all things considered.

Also, look at the weapons Wolf had... whip which he lost fast, spear he missed and his claws and he dropped his remaining throwing blades and went head-to-head and IMHO pulled up even.

That battle was pretty even. They both pretty much mortally wounded each other before they were nuked, and that was when wolf wasn't fully equipped. He even dropped his weapons and mask before going in for the kill. The fact that the Predalien is essentially a young queen leads me to believe that, when equipped, Wolf could kill any Xeno he wants, including a Queen.

Well not exactly. It's just a coincidence that it was a royal embryo. It could've been implanted in a person or a hippo and it wouldn've grown into a queen. The host doesn't determine the caste.

But then again nothing about AVPR makes sense. I don't think they ever settled on a reason why the Predalien implanted hosts. It doesn't even make sense design wise. It just needed to be a big Alien with mandibles.

According to AVPR's directors, the Brothers Strause, the idea behind the Prealien/Pre-Queen's, egg implantaion, was to build up enough drones, soldiers to build, and protect her. When hitting full blown queenhood, the Predalien Queen, would be most vulnerable when she grows her egg sack ,and goes to work building a proper Alien colony. The hive in question looked to be at the hospital where it looked a bit like contruction of said hive was already in progress.

The Strause brothers are morons and should not be listened to. The concept of the PredAlien shooting embryos down people's throats is absolutely moronic and violates so much about the previous films and even the games/comics it is simply ridiculous. The whole "young queen" argument doesn't really work either considering that the Queen is always, always, ALWAYS a pure breed.

I mean, who cares? The directors just ignored everything from comics/video games, and put their own spin on what the PredAlien was capable of. It was incredibly pointless to have it capable of implanting embryo's.

Are the comics and games really that important? I don't see how it contradicts anything in the previous films. I understand thematically why they did it - it makes the creature deadlier - they just did a horrible job achieving it.

I remember in one of the early drafts the Predalien died in the crash and one of the warriors began to turn into a queen. Now the movie was doomed from the start with the chosen directors but how dumb would it have been to do that? Almost as dumb as killing Newt and Hicks. It was something hinted at in in the first AVP that we wanted to see. Maybe not in the way it was finally realized but still.
