Comedic superhero films

Superheroes have gone mainstream and with that you get parodies. There were some early ones like Mystery Men, but now you have Kick-Ass, Super, Defendor, Special, Green Hornet etc. There was even Superhero Movie.

I think Special is a movie more people should see. I liked it a lot. I think it goes into more of what it means to be a hero not only to others but yourself much better than others.

The Mask. [/thread]

Though I did really dig Super, Kick-Ass, and Mystery Men.

We a movie that deals with a normal everyday person trying to become a super villain. It will be Super but with someone becoming evil instead.

I think it's important to note that Mystery Men was adapted from a surreal comic book series (which itself was a superhero parody piece), and isn't a reaction to the resurgance of superhero films (which happened afterwards).

That said, it's simply a fantastic film. The cast is AMAZING. Period.

Oh definitely. It's one of the few films I actually find Ben Stiller to be funny in.

Sadly, I don't feel the film ever truely got its due. I don't think a lot of people ouside the comic crowd "got it."

I loved The Green Hornet. Laughed my ass off at that movie. No idea why people hated it. (Although I assume that someone is going to 'tell me' now.)

Wouldn't chronicle fill that spot?

Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog would fill that role. Neil Patrick Harris plays a guy trying to become a super villain.

As for hero films, there's the film Condorman. It spoofed hero/spy films.

Mystery Men was a joke of a film. Outside of Hank Azaria, the cast sucked goats. Garaffalo (sp?) didnt get much screen time and when she did it was like she was phoning it in.

And the fact that Green Hornet falls into this category makes me sad...

No love for Blackman or Meteor Man?! RACIST THREAD!

I'm going to go old school. These aren't based on any comic book heroes. But they do fit the title of the thread.

1. Condor Man
2. Super Fuzz

If you're going :eh: chances you are younger than 30. Look them up.

There has never been a "Scientifically Accurate" Dinosaur portrayed on any Television Show, Movie, or Documentary. Only what the human imagination can conceive, and I'm ok with that.

I downloaded this a few months ago. It's impossible to find on DVD retail. It was only available through Disney Movie Club. I watched it so many times as an adult!

I guess The Return of Swamp Thing would be a comedic superhero film. It's a personal favorite of mine.

Which is kind of funny since Stiller considers Mystery Men to be the worst movie he's ever done.

I dunno, call me crazy but I've never been a huge fan of Mystery Men (although that could be partially due to everyone telling me how amazing it was before I actually saw it). Nothing really left an impression when it was over, and even if you held a gun to my head I'd be hard pressed to remember a single thing that happened in it.

Janeane Garofalo threw a bowling ball with a skull in it through a car and Greg Kinear got fried with a laser. And Pee Wee Herman was in it, and his power was super farts.

...seriously does ANY film want to be remembered like that?

Maybe that the movie bombed at the box office seeing that it only made $33,461,011 worldwide with a budget around 70 million. Mystery Men was a good film and I love how fun that movie was.

There's a simple explaination to that: Ben Stiller sucks.

the Legend of Zorro was pretty hilarious

and the Green Hornet had its moments here and there but overall it didn't do a very good job. it almost felt like it wanted to emulate the Adam West Batman series, but here's the difference: Batman was a celver satire, Green Hornet was not.
