Damn. I haven't kept up with it lately, but I'm still sad to see it go. I hope this supposed upcoming 'bonus content' clears up Rex and Ahsoka's fates. That was the only reason I followed the show at all anymore.

Microsoft contacted ebay to have one of my listings pulled offline, claiming copyright infringement. I can't figure how selling a Windows XP reinstallation disc I found in a storage locker constitutes copyright infringement, seeing as it makes no mention of "Not for Resale" or anything like that.

This is another reason not to trust Big Business. They block small businessmen from doing their own work.

"Not for resale" only pertains to items that are sold as packs of multiple identical items (fun-size candy, those six-cracker sandwich pack things, etc.). The infringement is likely that, given it's a piece of software, you don't have access to the distribution rights for it. Given that eBay would most likely prefer not to get tangled up in legal battles, they probably help keep watch for such activities.

And contrary to your opinion of the matter, copyright laws protect small businesses from "Big Business" (whatever that buzzword means). It's pretty much the only thing preventing Microsoft from becoming this generation's Standard Oil.

I understand more or less how "not for resale" works, having obtained several items in the past with such a warning. Never had problems with it before, as usually nobody seems to mind when a second-hand item, purchased in a third-hand manner, appears on a largely second-hand resale website. And all of that would suggest that if Microsoft took issue with people selling used copies of the same software, then nobody would be. But you can find a number of people selling Windows XP Home SP1a operating system CDs on ebay, so I'm not quite grasping why one of the largest companies in the world is taking a particularly hard-nosed stance against me.

Well they can't stop ALL of the people selling them. You're just a statistic of people they've filed requests against.

Well, it's your property to use, not to sell. That's the point of the copyright claim (well, I assume that it's a distribution right claim, as that's all that really makes sense).
