It didn't exonerate so much as said "Well, you're not really going to have a case for obstructing justice if you can't prove that there is some actual crime that was being hidden, and we didn't find evidence of a crime." At least as much as I understood it.

So it didn't so much exonerate as say "There's no real proof of a crime to be exonerated from."

It's unfortunate if that is the case, the cathedral survived countless conflicts and world powers coming and going, only to potentially be destroyed by mistake during renovations.
I hope they can save as much of the cathedral as possible, and repair the damage soon.

Still, it's awful that even a part of the 800+ year old Cathedral had to go up in flames.

The only silver lining to this is that no injuries or deaths have been reported so far.

Nasty fucking business. Looks like it was IS after all, with a number of suspects having previously fought in. Really sucks that Sri Lankan intelligence really botched the job (they had known of a plot bit failed to pass it along or inform the PM); it appears that there will be a number of firings/resignations, including that of their defense minister apparently. Hope they round up any remaining IS cells in Sri Lanka soon
