...well The Thanos Imperative now means jack-shit in the grand scheme of Marvel. They couldnt just leave him dead. I mean how many times is this skreeonk going to come back?! He's died more then Jean Grey.

BTW Im reading all the 2009-present Thor books and Siege. EPIC!

He looked better in Annihilation. He wore a robe/priest type outfit. 'Course Drax shanked his ass in the end.

Thanos can't die, at all now, thanks to Death's machinations so to defeat Lord Mar-Vell and the denizens of the Cancerverse. He was trapped with the presumably killed Star-Lord and Nova Richard Rider when the Cancerverse collapsed upon itself when Lord Mar-Vell was tricked into bringing Death back to the Cancerverse by sacrificing Thanos. Thus destroying it. Part of the power upgrade Death gave the mad Titan in THE THANOS IMPERIATIVE was he could no longer die, and thus could be no longer with the love of his life. So along with his inability to die, Thanos has vast power (the explosive power of an army of Chuck Norri), and the knowledge on how to use to it. So escaping a collapsing universe would be a problem for the Mad Titan, but only for awhile. And I'm actually enjoying this opening arc of AVENGERS ASSEMBLE with the new Zodiac Cartel. Bendis and Bagley are doing an admirable job with the opening arc so far. Likewise AVX's party seems to cruising quite nicely along so far. And Cyclops is a dick for starting the fight.

Oddly enough, Ive decided to try to read up on some old Ultimates comics. I own a ton of Ultimate Spider-Man and Ultimate X-Men but theyre just shit books. Ultimate Fantastic Four and The Ultimates are where it's at...

...so I read all of The Ultimates (2002) and Ultimate War and I just gotta say - UGH. The X-Men are just so badly written and STUPID. I swear the only reason these books made it to 100 issues was because they wanted to kill off these characters and NOT bring them back because in 616 no one dies.

So Wataru, having had little experience with the X-men outside of the films and guest apperances, I have to say that while I'm enjoying the "Messiah" storyline, I find it hard to follow at times. So many side characters mutants and goings on that I feel like I'm not privy too. For example, Professor X seems like he's in a constant limbo of being alive, dead, paraplegic, and perfectly fine. Again, still good stories, but hard to follow at times.

I agree 100% with this statement.
I too have been going back to the Ultimate Universe lately, but by purchasing them on my Kindle Fire. I'm trying to get back into the groove with Marvel, because after Ultimatum, I think I collected for the next 6 months, then just stopped collecting Marvel altogether.
I hadnt collected a 616 book since the end of Secret Invasion. I didnt like the idea of Norman Osborn and the Dark Avengers all to much. But now that these books can be bought for 1.99 or less, and I dont have to worry about space for them in my apartment, I've been going back to Marvel and picking up some of the stuff I missed over the last couple of years.

Any suggestions?

IMHO the only Marvel books worth reading are Thor titles, X-Men titles and Hulk titles. Ultimate comics are always good to read because theyre VERY easy to follow. They only have 10-11 years of history and every person is connected.

I agree, I didnt really cach up on X-Men until Messiah War and OMG I was daunted by what I missed from Morrison's run til Messiah Trilogy.

What I did was print this out and just read the stories a bit at a time. Ive gotten almost all of 2001 - 2010

Read this: http://howtoreadxmen.blogspot.com/

EDIT:
Marvel release dates REALLY piss me off. Like 8 Avengers vs X-Men comics came out in the past 3 weeks that were NOT on the website when I checked it 3 weeks ago.

Yeah, the Ultimate line was the only Marvel I was buying consistently until I stopped Marvel altogether. I recently picked up Ultimate Comics Captain America and Thor, and the Thor mini blew me away. I'm not really a Thor fan, but that comic series was good. Ultimate Cap was good too. I liked how they incorporated a Captain America from Vietnam in there who showed Steve Rodgers the horror of war while Steve was frozen. I like how Steve's faith was tested. Good book.
Right now I just finished reading Ultimate Origins again, its been a minute since I've read those. Next up is the terrible Ultimates 3, and then the absolutely terrible, Ultimatum.

Ok, Ive read every issue of Avengers vs X-Men (core, crossover and tie-in) and I gotta say it DOES get better.

In both VS books, Im a bit pissed that the Avengers are battling 3 W - 0 L - 1 T. These books are not hard to read IF YOU KNOW HOW. But it's obvious Marvel cannot write a major event like DC. Basically, everyone single book OUTSIDE of Avengers vs X-Men is just fodder. YOU DONT EVEN NEED TO READ IT! Especially New Avengers - it takes place YEARS before AvsX. IT'S DURING DA VINCI'S TIME! I MEAN CMON! And Secret Avengers takes place in space and until all 6 issues (three per title) are printed, youre going to be loooooooooose. Noh-Vel and Ms Marvel betray the team with some copy of the original Captain Marvel ...but somehow over in the Avengers title Noh-Var betrays everyone BEFORE this Captain Marvel appears and decides to take the Phoenix power to Hala? OMG it's like a 12 year old writing a fanfic!

The amount of hypocrisy here is staggering. In 2007 with Civil War, Iron Man was ready to tell everyone how it is and skreeonk everyone else who didnt agree. Now Cap's doing it here with the X-Men. Norman Osburn did it and Iron Man AND Cap stood upto him. But the X-Men are bad guys now?

What this cross over is saying to me is:

The X-Men leadership, while extreme (Cyclops is a freakin' zealot), is in the right.
The Avengers leadership is extremely weak. Cap is a hypocrite, Wolverine is a liar and Ms. Marvel & Noh-Var are untrustworthy.

The writing might be bad but it's really firing me up on hating The Avengers.

Just read Avengers vs X-Men Round 5...

...ok this series has gone to shit now. It was doing SO WELL up til issue 5.

SPOILERS

The Phoenix arrives but instead of taking over Hope, it takes over Cyclops, Colossus/Juggernaut, Emma, Magik and Namor and they look HORRID. I mean like 1991 comic book Japanese style outfit horrid. J Romita Jr's artwork inside is just BAD.

And this shit is only about half over! NOOOOO!

So I heard Spider-Man now has a new armor that makes him as strong as Green Scar hulk is this true? If it is it's only a matter of time in till Marvel lets Spidey take on Galactus.

End of the Earth armor. Supposedly Class 100 strength. But I HIGHLY doubt that.

I feel so bad that his skill has gone so down hill in the past 20 years.

EDIT:

So Im debating whether I want to tackle Fear Itself or not. SEIGE was very stand alone. You dont even need to books outside the hardcover collected and Thor: Seige. But Fear Itself is just insane. Over 125 books. About 26 TPBs not even all printed yet....

I love Thor, but alot of this series I dont think needs to be read. Has anyone read it?

Well those that are hoping that Thanos would die or turn out to be a fake in the new avengers issue will be sadden that it is the real deal and he's getting two new series.... Both written by his creator Jim Starlin!? Huh... Maybe it won't be so bad after all.

Any reasons why that is? Sorry, I don't read much Marvel cosmic. Does this contradict what happened in the recent books?

I dont understand what he's saying. But with Thanos being in the end of The Avengers, its logically that Marvel would go ape-shit and spam him up. They did it with Thor and Iron Man.
