Brandon Tenold Discussion

Postby BlueGojira » Thu May 04, 2017 12:29 pm

So, has anybody else heard of him? If not...

Basically, Brandon Tenold is a Canadian Youtuber, who reviews many movies, television shows, and more. He has done reviews of Godzilla films, and has even done the entire Showa Gamera series. Brandon is a big fan of MST3k as well. His humor revolves around clever jokes and a lot of sarcasm, and he is honestly one of the most underrated reviewers I've ever seen. In my opinion, Nostalgia Critic has lost his touch and CinemaSnob has become much less funny, and I personally see this guy as a perfect channel. As of the time I'm typing this he's also doing a marathon of reviewing Alien knockoff films in celebration of the new movie. Here's his channel, please watch some of his videos.

No more are there guys in rubber suits, no more are there fun, silly, kid-friendly Godzillas, no more are the days when you could make out in the back row with your sweetheart and your kid brother could be in the front, eyes glued to the screen. Instead we're left with the gritty, cold world of Hollywood and apocalyptic visions of nightmare creatures.

I like his channel, even though I only watch his Godzilla vids. Yet, his KKE one killed me.

Pass by his channel from time to time, really enjoy a number of his videos outside of Godzilla. His Gamera reviews in particular were great, he somehow always finds a way to make me laugh.

They're too reddit-ish and Nostalgia Critic esque but I kinda get why people like him.

He's got the exact verbatim lazy YouTube style of just showing a movie pretty much in full, and clips of it, rather than really dissecting a movie or having a cross examination of it, something that few youtubers, beyond the stellar Redlettermedia group, ever stray from.

That being said, he is decently good, and seems like an interesting fellow. On top of that his choices in movies shown are pretty great, and since he doesn't just review bad movies I've gotten exposed to a few of my favorite films through him. His Godzilla reviews are good too I suppose. I guess what I'm saying is that he's good but very amateur, but none of it feels forced, unlike TGWTG, so I do like his videos.

Great review, though I am slightly annoyed that he didn't point out that the stupid "Godzilla is attracted to birds" idea wasn't in the original.

In light of Michael Bay's latest pile of crap being released, he now covers the one true Transformers movie:

Yeah, his style of review just screams "Nostalgia Critic ripoff".

He's decent, nothing too special. Humor is hit-or-miss. I'd like him a lot more, but his general setup is kind of boring. He needs to spice it up beyond "dry humor while showing movie clips". Not go full NC-skits and poop, but something.

Per a patreon request, he now gives Rodan's debut film the irreverent treatment:

Two movies I'd really love to see him review are 'Dinosaurus' and 'Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie'.

Give him $30 and he'll do whatever you want. I like his stuff since he seems down to Earth and doesn't try to go over the top with his reactions.
