I'm holding out for Bigfoot, Yeti, things like them.
Nessie... well, I guess it COULD happen...
After that, though, I doth feel skeptical.

(At the risk of this being said before) The problem with nessie is the time-period. There have been reports of the Loch Ness Monster dating back 500 years now, and even the famous photo was taken back in the 30s. It can't reasonably be expected that the creature would've survived this long, and if there had been a population it would've been discovered.
Before it can be filmed, drawn, acted or programed, it must be written.

I heard the most likely explanation for the Loch Ness Monster is a colossal Sturgeon or some giant amphibian. The Sturgeon theory is very likely considering how big these fish get:

I figured it was some kind of crocodilian or a crocodilian-like reptile.

My idea is that it's a self impregnating frog like creature- now just bare with me while I explain...
Nessie, in the original story, was described as 'frog like', if I recall correctly, but these days, most sightings describe a plesiosaur like being. What could, if seen from a distance, be mistaken as a long, undulating serpent like creature? A giant Tadpole, which would eventually grow into a large frog, but would follow ther normal pattern of developement for frogs, meaning that, for a time, it would still look plesiosaur like, but could walk on land for short periods of time, which would account for the rare 'on land' sightings.
To breed, the final frog like being would simply reach a certain stage in its development, or a certain age, and it would set off a hormonal reaction, and it would impregnate itself- then, the child would be born, the parent would die soon after and be eaten by the baby to nourish it. This process would be a fairly fast one, by human standards (taking only about a year or so, I'd imagine), and the creature would probably have a slower metabolism than most, needing to eat only when a 'tadpole' and when pregnate. The creature would possibly live 5 years or so, and, like other frogs, might be able to go into a form of un-aging stasis, which it could wake up from with the right stimuli- much like the frozen frogs found in Russia in the 1800's, and the stories of frogs being bricked into buildings, then discovered alive and well years later. This would explain the veritble 500 year absence from the original tale to the first sightings in the 1930's fairly well.
So there's my theory. Needs a little refinement, but it's still not half bad.

Water's too cold for a croc. Crocs are cold blooded. A sturgeon is most likely, then otters before a dinosaur.

posted today on yahoo news:

http://www.grindtv.com/outdoor/blog/33793/anglers+extraordinary+find+is+no+sea+monster+but+a+giant+squid/

Al McGlashan, a prominent big-game fisherman in Australia, ventured to sea Friday in search of tuna and swordfish. The highlight, however, was the bizarre discovery of a fresh giant squid carcass.

Giant squid are elusive, mysterious denizens of the ocean's darkest depths, believed to have spawned ancient tales of sea monsters. To find even parts of a dead specimen is rare, but to find a specimen largely intact and still with its bright-orange coloration is extraordinary.

It looks more like a Humbolt squid than a Giant Squid to be honest.

then otters before a dinosaur.

There have also been suggestions that it might be some unknown form of Pinniped such as the one depicted below:

lol that pic of the Otter-Saurus looks ridiculous!

Giant Squids have been caught on film and video since 2006. It's on Wiki. check it out.

It's something called Megophias megophias. Its a hypothewtical species of long necked pinniped which some Cryptozoologists agree is the most likely candidate aside from an amphibian or giant fish of course.

My issue with some cryptozoologists is that they rather stretch for some wildly evolved animal then just a more plausible explanation. Like a giant sturgeon or just some large otters.

I can see Megophias megophias being the explanation for sightings of Sea Serpents way back when, the ocean is colossal compaired to Loch ness so theres no telling what it hides. Of course, if it WAS real, I'd imagine that Megophias megophias is extinct by now. Theres also the Steller's sea Cow which was enormous, and could easly be mistaken for a sea monster.

I could see a school of dolphins rolling just outside of eye-sight as being mistaken as sea serpents. Not everything that looks different is a new species. I think most cryptozoologists allow the need to discover something new cloud their judgement.

I dont believe that. The body was dumped before it was examined.

Did you examine it? Did a scientific inquiry team examine it? No, they didnt. It was photographed then dumped overboard.
