A woman who is identified only as J.P. is suing Viacom, 495 Productions and the entire Jersey Shore cast for assault and on racketeering charges, stemming from a 2009 incident where she was pushed to the ground by private security employed by the show.
Court documents allege that J.P. received a gash on her chin when the guards tossed her to the floor after she and several friends got in a heated verbal argument with Snooki. This took place during the filming of the now-infamous "One Shot" episode, which saw cast member Ronnie knock out another reveler at the club. That man, Stephen Izzo, later tried to prevent the release of the DVD set from the show's first season. A judge denied that request but allowed a suit against MTV and the producers of the show, which is also alleging racketeering, to continue.
J.P.s suit alleges that "Viacom, MTV and 495 Productions are actively engaged in a criminal enterprise because it is making money off of advertising sales for a television show promoting criminal behavior." She is seeking damages under New Jersey's racketeering laws and should she win, the show could be taken off the air for good.
Sammi "Sweetheart" Giancala refused to be served with the court documents on Thursday, so they were left on the sidewalk outside the Ocean Terrace house where the show is filmed. There are three other lawsuits pending against MTV and the producers of the show involving assaults that were filmed for the show's first season, and an additional suit filed in federal court by an Illinois woman who claims to have been assaulted in a Miami nightclub in May during the show's second season.
