I had owned both the build up Anguirus and Gorosaurus, and when I acquired the X-Plus versions I sold them off. Neither compare to the X-Plus versions IMO and from the pictures I've seen of Gigan, the X-Plus versions look better still.
This isn't to say that they aren't nice, just not as nice. However, the build/t up Megalon looks to rival the X-Plus version. Though I've only seen it.
I do like the Marmit Monster Heaven figures, such as the angry King Seesar.

Going back to Varan for a sec., here is an interesting blue variant that was released last year in 2011. I don't recall any collectors on here who owned this.

I still think my black gallery Varan along with Legion's brown Varan are the best. Also, here is yet another brown version of Varan (it's a shinier paint scheme than Legion's):

As with the Varan figure, there have been tons of variants of the MH Gigan released. The most common variants I see collectors post is the strange light blue (with yellow and pink added in) variant...it seems to be a popular variant and the one that pops up the most on ebay and other auctions (and in stores around Tokyo as well), but I don't care for it at all as it doesn't do the fantastic sculpt justice and just doesn't fit Gigan.

I really regret not getting the following dark metallic variant, which is the most recent green/grey-ish variant released last year in July (it hasn't been posted yet the CT listings page yet for MH Gigan):

Anyone own this particular variant (or any other interesting variants)?

Eh...I don't see how the paint affects the sculpt in any negative way and part of the reason I like this line is because I enjoy the stylization and different color-schemes. The colors may not be to your taste, but I personally find it to be very attractive and think it "fits" just fine.

MARMIT MONSTER HEAVEN SPOTLIGHT #5: SHOWA RODAN

Image
Image

I think this figure alone is a perfect example of how MH figures, even though they're "stylized", can often capture the look and spirit of a figure much better than their more "realistic" figure counterparts. Take for instance the Bandai showa Rodan. Sure, it might be more "realistic", but it's rather stiff and lifeless as a figure. In contrast, figures like this MH Rodan are just booming with life and energy. As far as capturing the spirit of showa Rodan, this one is at the top.

As far as I know, I don't believe any variants have ever been released besides this one (same with GFW Manda), and if there has, I've never seen it. I also believe it's one of the rarer, harder to come by MH figures. In Japan, I've only ever seen it once. Unfortunately, I had already blew my money earlier that day on other figures and was devastated that I would have to pass it up (the shopowner wouldn't hold it for me). I had no doubt that such a rare figure would be snatched up before I managed to make it there again. To my utter shock, it was still there the next time I was able to make the trek to this particular store and was able to nab him 8-)

Not one of my favorites/most desired, but the blue highlights are eye-catching.

Great photos. I would love to track down that MH Rodan, but even with some time in Japan coming up, I'll be very pleasantly surprised if I find him.

I'll have to disagree with you on that one. He just likes kind of 'dead' and derpy to me.

Different strokes. I'd love to find this figure on sale from a dealer at a 'dead and derpy' discount.

I have solid leads on not 1 but 2 of the three Marmits I want. Full reviews if it pans out.

I picked up a Gorosaurus recently. Great figure. If I don't sell it by G Fest, I don't mind keeping it.

MARMIT MONSTER HEAVEN SPOTLIGHT #6: GOROSAURUS

Image

Lucky Bag variant (2007)

This was the most recent variant, which was announced in August, 2011 last year.

Honestly, I was never a big fan or crazy about this figure (for some odd reason, Marmit made it slightly larger than typical MH figures, and as a result it doesn't scale all that well with other figures), and I wasn't too keen on the initial paint scheme (yes, I know these are stylized and I often loved the different various variants, but there are times with a more matte/traditional paint scheme is best). However, this most recent variant released in 2011 has been regretting not nabbing this when I had the chance.

Anyways, please post your thoughts/photos about MH Gorosaurus (as well as showa Rodan or any other MH figures already discussed

I will have this at G Fest. It's also on the Kaiju Marketplace for $150. If I do not sell it at G Fest, I will keep it. It is a great figure.

Thanks. That's a lot more attractive than the bright colored version.
