Been awhile since I've done a spotlight...sorry! Been extremely busy with work...will try do these more often.

MONSTER HEAVEN SPOTLIGHT #20: MECHAGODZILLA 74 and 75

Image

Now *THIS* is a what a great showa MG figure is all about...no "splits" pose nor squatting like it's taking a dump...just two very solid, accurate MG figures that nail the character perfectly, but as with most Marmit figures, is often overlooked and underrated because of the paint schemes (in reality, both paint schemes really compliment the character well with their metallic feel, and must be seen in person to appreciate). Bottom line, both of these figures are fantastic. The above photo is from vinylmaddness.com (is it your pic by any chance, Legion1979? :?: ). MG74 is on the left, and '75 is on the right. It seems that MG's hands are articulated and can be rotated, but the MH 74 are not (or perhaps than are? The hands on my MG 74 figure feel super stiff and I don't want to break it trying to find out if they can be rotated or not). I would love to take photo of my own MG 74 and 75 figures with my MH Titanosaurus and MH G73, but unfortunately those figures are back home in the states (along with 95% of the rest of my collection...sure hope the family is taking care of them in the intense Missouri summer heatwave :? :dizzy: )

In addition to the two standard variants above, here are some other pictures of different variants below. It seems that MG 74 doesn't have as many variants as MG75 (If there are more variants, will someone please post them? As I said, the purpose of this thread to hopefully get more photos of these things on the net besides my own, Legion's, and Club Tokyo's photos). The one below is a newer variant that was announced last April by Marmit and was just released a few days ago in Japan:
MG 74 variant:

MG 75 Variants:

Of course, there is also a Giant Marmit MG figure, but honestly, I'm not a fan of its head sculpt at all and feel it pales in comparison these two figures....

The heads and necks are too wide for their bodies for them me to think they are perfect, or more accurate than other offerings that are out there. But I do think they are great looking figures.

I agree that the MH MechaGodzillas look even better in person than in photos. I got a great deal on one a few months back, and couldn't stop looking at it once it was in hand. (Didn't have the same reaction to the low-priced VP King Ghidorah I got from the same seller, though.)

I also like Marmit's giant MG '74, which I bought a few years ago, but I agree that it would look better if the head were smaller. For me, the oversized head on the giant version just distracts from the overall quality of the sculpt.

Their heads are too big for their bodies, that is if they're supposed to be perfect as the previous post stated.

I agree with Legion, I don't see what you're talking about either....the heads and necks look just about right and you're the first person I've ever heard say that about these particular figures (though the Giant MG figure's head is definitely too big and out of proportion). Secondly, I find it odd that you have a problem with the so-called "large heads", yet, you were in total denial/found no problems at all with the Xplus's 30 and 25cm MG figures' splits and squat poses (or how the 30 cm G89's head doesn't look much like the actual suit). But to each their own....

It's obvious that there are proportional discrepancies between the film Mechagodzilla and the Marmit figure. But that's kind of the point of the line. Of course the heads are a bit large, Of course the proportions are off. It's a @#@$% Marmit. It's stylized. It's not going for filmaccuracy.

What's your point GCrusher? Because you seem to have missed the point of this figure. It can capture the personality or look of a monster better than carbon copies. If you don't get it, I understand. Not everyone does.

MG is my favorite character. And, I own some Marmit, Marusan, etc.. and don't necessarily prefer one over the next.
Stylized figures are great. But yeh, the MG in some of these lines can also resemble a pez machine.
Some people will read posts and look for arguements. I'm a Marmit fan like the rest of you. It's too bad one can't make an observation without stirring things up :-)
Thanks for posting the comparrison picture.

Relax, just a difference of opinion. No worries....hey, I get walloped by you Xplus folks whenever I go in there, so it's fair game (in good fun of course ;) ). Since we're on the topic of MG, that brings up the next item on the list:

MONSTER HEAVEN SPOTLIGHT #21: MECHAGODZILLA/KIRYU 2002 VERSION

I loathe the name "Kiryu" (he's "MECHAGODZILLA" damn it! ), but I equally dislike the moniker "MechaGodzilla 3" as well, so Kiryu it is. Truth be told, the Bandai 8 inch figures of Kiryu were excellent, and never really felt an urge to get the MH one. However, I found a pair of them (2003 version) for only 2000 yen each ($20! ) 2 years ago, so I nabbed 'em. I'll get to the 2003 version later...for now, let's look at Kiryu 2002

To avoid violating the "can't have more than 5 photos in a post" rule, I will more photos of variants later. There are a ton of variants as well as different versions of Kiryu released. We'll start with regular Kiryu from 2002:

Kiryu '02 with Jet Pack
Image
*Supposedly, some variants of this figure comes with Kiryu's knife...not sure which ones though*

Kiryu '02 with Jet Pack and Absolute Zero Cannon Chest opened

Kiryu '02 w/o Jet Pack

Kiryu '02 w/o Jet Pack, but with Absolute Cannon ( :freak:  )

Good lord, you think Marmit made enough damn Kiryu figures? And these don't even include all of the variants! :!: I could probably fill two to three thread pages of just all the variants the above have. Overall, these are all fine, nice looking figures...but the Kiryu 2003 figures are where Marmit shined as they released some truly interesting, unique takes on the character not often found in figures from other lines. Stay tuned...

I fully support the release of an army of Marmit Kiryus. One of my favorite monster designs ever, thus I keep on buying them!

I don't see the problem with the Giant Marmit MG having an oversized head sculpt. The marmit Kiryu 1 looks really cool, particularly the jetpack'd one. The color variants for the second one are awful though... (no, I like zany color schemes, but the way they executed it was terrible).

MONSTER HEAVEN SPOTLIGHT #22: MECHAGODZILLA/KIRYU 2003 VERSION

These are the two MG 03 figures I have. My favorite by far is the battle damaged figure, as it's one of more unique, interesting looking figures of this particular kaiju.

Battle Damaged MG 03

MG w/ Drill

By the way, I do have small critique of all of Marmit's Kiryu figures (both 02 and 03 versions), and that's the legs. The legs on these seen to be made of a rather soft vinyl. As a result, due to shipping, packaging, being crapped, etc...the legs are always rather warped and bent. Out of all the Marmit MH figures I own, these are the only MH figures I ever had this QC issue with (you can see the bent legs in the top photo on my MG03 w/ Battlepack figure...hell, you can see also see it in the CT photos as well).

Ok, I'm about "Kiryu-ed" out...not sure if I'm ready to cover the endless amount of Marmit Hedorah figures  Maybe down the road...

Great stuff as always, Ebirasmeg. Thanks again. I dig the sculpt, just wish there was more paint on the WCC variant I have!

Awesome, can't wait to see your photos when you receive them, so don't forget to post them here!

Speaking of Megaro-Goji/G73...

MONSTER HEAVEN SPOTLIGHT #23: Godzilla 73

Image

Some may disagree, but I think this is one of the best damn G73 figures ever produced, and I think it's far superior to the Bandai memorial box figure as well as the 30cm Xplus figure (though I do think the 25 cm figure looks awesome and would love to have it someday). I don't mind the sometimes whacky, inaccurate colors associated with these stylized figures...however, when comes to Godzilla (and King Ghidorah), I'm a big stickler for accurate color schemes and very conservative, so would normally shun colors like the above blue variant. Nevertheless, this is such a great figure that it could be pink for all I care, and the moment I saw the above gorgeous blue glitter variant, I had to snatch it up.

Below are several variants. Would love to see collectors on here who own this figure to post some photos. As I said, I'm awfully tired of doing internet image searches for Marmit MH figures, only to have the majority of the search results being my own damn photos :freak:
