Banpresto Ultraman stuff

Postby Drunken Kong » Mon Apr 30, 2012 11:34 am

Is this stuff worth getting? They're all pretty big figures at like ~13" tall. Vinyl.

Particularly I was thinking of the X-Plus Belial vs. the Banpresto Belial. Both are similar sizes, but way different in price. X-Plus Belial is around $200 while the Banpresto Belial is around like $40. The X-Plus obviously has more detail. I figure I probably only need 1 big vinyl Belial figure. Even though the Banpresto is just another $40, I'd rather not spend it if it's not worth it. I'm just looking for the single coolest representation of the character. Sadly neither companies made a Kaiser Belial with the cape :P

Here's a comparison for people who aren't familiar with these:

Not the best pictures, but you get the point.

All of them are great toys, but some are truly beautiful. Belial is definitely pushing the latter category. Yeah, X-Plus is great in their way, but you can't just ignore the huge investment that goes along with their work. Most of the time, it isn't worth it to me (with some major exceptions, of course). With Banpresto, on the other hand, I get far higher-than-average quality sculpts for a toy in that price range, and I'm free to acquire many more characters.

And honestly, some of the X-Plus Ultras look kind of off to me, like there are a few too many folds, shading, etc...on the costumes. That makes sense for the 70s shows, but in the more recent films, the costumes are usually pretty glossy and streamlined in 99% of the shots.

I have the Banpresto Belial and it is awesome. I'd take it over the X-plus for soem reason. Its not 13 in BTW- more like 10 inches.

I agree, the Banpresto sculpt looks far better than X-Plus' Belial... that's my personal preference though.
I'm not a fan of the 'wrinkles' it just makes it too much like a suit. In some cases that's good, but there is a fine line there, and the X-plus figure kind of crosses it.
