Read the issue. Great improvement over KOM, but it still has one crippling issue the other series had. Despite his name being the title the book is not about Godzilla. It's about Soldier of Fortune, Boxer. Godzilla isn't even really a character. This is extremely apparent when you realize that you could replace Godzilla's role in the story with any other monster, and it wouldn't change the story or plot whatsoever. He is that ill-defined. He had no personality, he was just there doing the same old shit every monster does. Anyone else notice how sterile Godzilla's fighting is in these books. Walk, shoot ray, walk, shoot ray. There's no inventiveness in his fighting style that gave him character in the films. Like tripping Kiryu with his tail and then blasting him in the face, or slicing off Megaguirus's arm with a spine. He's just boring plot device with no personality. And I'm frankly getting tired of Bobby saying he treats these monsters as characters and is trying to bring them and the universe to life, when he really just doesn't. He needs to stick a bit closer to the films for inspiration. That's why Legends was such phenomenal mini-series. There's no reason at ALL to exchange Monster character and personality for a human character's personality when the books are about Godzilla supposedly, not about Boxer's issues. Humans in these things generally work better at complimenting the monster action, NOT the other way around. It just says something to me about the lack of creativity on the writers' part. They don't know how to have a non vocal monster drive a story so they rely on these really futile humn characters to give the audience something to relate to. It's really silly. Marvel and Dark Horse were able to have Godzilla drive the story as the lead character PERFECTLY. They should take notes from those series, while taking mythos from the films, like G-Force, Red Bamboo, Planet X, etc.

I like Boxer actually, but he's not why I buy the book. If the Book is titled "Godzilla", I expect each issue to have a story following Godzilla. If ANYTHING, Half Century War should be the new on going, and you should make a spin off series about Boxer as a Kaiju Bounty Hunter. I'd buy it. You wouldn't even need Godzilla in the title. But apparently IDW simply cannot make proper decisions on who to let be in control of the Main ongoing series. It's almost sad how far the spin off series out matches the ongoing in every possible way, yet IDW doesn't respond to fans saying so.

Also, spoilers, the idiots with guns killed the girl, Not Godzilla....so....?

I wonder if they are trying to go somewhere with this. The guy saved the girl from a seemingly helpless situation involving Godzilla and them being trapped in a building he is destroying, yet she was suddenly and unintentionally killed by some careless human...

^ Oh the irony.

I just read the issue last night. It certainly was far better in story telling than Kingdom of Monsters. The art work is uneven at different points, but it was not bad... not the greatest either. The vibrant coloring kind of sugarcoated the line art, so it was not as bad as it was in Godzilla Legends #2. For me I like a great story even though the art may be sub par... but it would be nice if we got both an amazing story and great artwork - like Godzilla Legends #4. But I guess that's where the mini series will come in, Half Century War. I'm a fan of Stokoe art style, and from what has been shown, I can tell that GHCW will be have a great story and fantastic artwork.

Sadly the art was really uneven, I can remember a few panels that just looked "wrong", like when Godzilla fires his breath at a plane and the beam seems to stop at the point of the explosion, it is weird considering the beam should be continuous, it felt sloppy.

I did enjoy it though, and I will buy the trade when it comes out.

For whatever force that's got a hold of me, I feel like re-reading the Kingdom of monsters comics. D: I'll be doing this all through the library of course but maybe these will hold up better in trade? I dunno. All I know is the art is STILL going to suck and we're getting this big ass hardcover with all twelve issues.

I know why godzilla isn't the main character right now, it's because IDW wants to showcase every monster in this series, so i think everybody should just relax. Godzilla is in good hands.

IDW hasn't treated Godzilla any better or worse than Toho has.

Kingdom of Monsters was a flop because it lacked consistency in tone, art, story, pacing, characters, art, and art. Gangsters and Goliaths was phenomenal. Approximately half of Legends was pretty good. The new ongoing is good so far, and Half Century War is promising. I'd say we're par for the course.

Indeed. However at the same time, one part of IDW won't satisfy the fans. So that's the reason why IDW is making miniseries'. They know just as well as we do that their ongoing series isn't going to satisfy everyone; whether be because of the writers or just the execution style, or how certain things are portrayed. The many miniseries they will have in store, at least we'll have a variety of people to reach out. That was the best part about Legends. It had different stories to tell, broadening on the types of readers. Writing, though, that's a different story entirely.
