I was surprised to hear flack about Legion1979's comment, and mine, about wanting X-Plus to produce some more replicas of the monsters that accurately depict how they looked in Destroy All Monsters, in addition to classic / first-appearance looks.

After all, King Ghidorah didn't look particularly impressive in Godzilla vs. Gigan, either... but I've read comments from others that they'd like a figure of KG '72, too. Probably not as X-Plus's first take on Ghidorah, but eventually. It's how he looked in that movie... and wanting a replica that fits in with a G vs. Gigan display makes sense.

It's a reasonable request, considering how much X-Plus charges for these figures and how much emphasis is put on the figure accuracy as the main appeal of this particular line.

But I don't even collect this stuff, don't mind me.

I mean, 1968 Godzilla, 1968 Angilas, Minya, Gorosaurus, 1963 Manda, 1964 Rodan, 1958 Varan, 1961 Mothra..is NOT a Destroy all Monsters display in any way shape or form. It doesn't sit right because X-Plus went as far as including an extra 1968 head with their exclusive Baragon in order to fit in with the rest of the DAM monsters. You could say that they want to produce the versions of the monsters that they think will sell. But in that case don't even mention Destroy all Monsters if the monsters you do don't actually look the way they do in that movie.

I'm sure people will buy them all anyway and when all 11 of them are released they're display them together. IMHO that would look terrible considering a good half of the monsters don't even look the way they do in the movie.

But that's just me.

I used to be attached to wanting them all to be from DAM but the releases thus far have broken me of that. I'm thankful they're just making them, regardless of if they're the DAM representations or not. I mean, where else can you find a realistic Varan and soon to be Kumonga? They may not be the DAM versions, but I'll take what I can get given what my other options are. Plus, in the long run, I just see myself buying the representations from the other movies anyway if they're made. Everyone is different in their collecting tastes and how they collect, there's room for differing opinions here. No big.

I hear you, Brad, and it does make sense for people to collect what they like.

For myself, I also like getting the first-appearance versions, as well as DAM-specific forms.

Still, the answer to the question, "Where else can you find a realistic Varan?" (1958-style) is, in many places. CCP made a beautiful and realistic 9" vinyl figure of classic Varan, and there have been a number of kits that offered the same: check out Varan's page on kaijukits.com. Paradise, Image and others have all produced really good Varan 1958 kits; some of them in 30cm scale.

I just wish that once, somebody would do a nicely detailed, small-to-medium figure of the Varan puppet from Destroy All Monsters: one that wouldn't look wrong in a DAM display.

Unfortunately, that Y-MSF "Varan 2," if it ever even gets produced, isn't going to cut it.

At least I've got Team Ukeke's Manda 1968 kit, and we did get good figures of Godzilla 1968 and a few others.

Hmmm... I just searched for that CCP Varan and although very nice, I would liken it more to the Bandai line and not all that realistic looking but that's just me. Oh gosh, and resin kits! Those by far are the ultimate, even better than X-Plus vinyls but the thing with those is you have to be able to build and paint them and I just don't have the talent for it. You could hire someone I suppose but I bet it would cost an arm and a leg, which is why X-Plus is perfect for me!

That's the Resin Chef Kamakiras kit. We may see it in vinyl form from X-Plus eventually, as they were rumored to have bought the rights to the sculpt a while back.

Aww crap... that's gonna be another $200 bill for me right there! XD
Kinda' makes me regret buying Rodan this past weekend... Hell, I'll earn enough money to buy it by the end of the summer, as well as paying off the rest of my preorders this year!

Hopefully they'll do a better job than their Rodan, MechaGodzilla, and Varan figures. Sorry, I know I will most likely take some heat for this, but I am just not digging these recent showa 30 cm figures at all (Manda being the lone exception)...the Rodan figure was very stiff/lifeless with wrinkled wings (and please, spare me the "that's because it's trying to be realistic like the actual suits" arguments, as the wings *never* looked that wrinkled in the films), both the 25 and 30 cm MGs were terrible (the 30cm looks like he's doing the splits, and the 25 inch looks like he squatting to take a dump), and the painted Varan just looks lackluster and unappealing (CCP and Marmit's Varan figures looked much better). For the insane prices these go for, they should be *near* flawless representations of the kaiju they're representing...and lately, they have fallen far short in that department. With Titanosaurus, I hope Xplus can get back to the quality they showed with their best showa figures, such as 25 inch Baragon, Ebirah, and the recent excellent 25 inch Gigan.

Perhaps they should start a new poll..."Which Xplus figures would you like to seen redone?" There are quite a few I can think of lately...

Do you own the Rodan? The wings aren't as heavily wrinked on the actual figure as they appear in pictures, and look essentially spot-on compared with stills from the film. In my opinion it is one of the best X-Plus figures.

I saw the figure up close and personal on display at a store in Tokyo...let's just say we'll agree to disagree about the wings. Besides, the wings are only a part of the problem, as the figure in general just looks dull/stiff/lifeless....but different strokes for different folks. One of the reasons I am so critical of this line is that I *love* the concept behind it (super film accurate vinyl representations of each kaiju...a dream come true for me), but I'm growing increasingly frustrated with their major inconsistencies (it's consistently inconsistent  )...for the prices of these things, this shouldn't be happening so often...

I do agree that the 30cm Mechagodzilla is lackluster. I skipped that one.

The only Showa era monsters not mentioned as upcoming yet are: Gabara, Kamakiras, and King Seesar right? That's pretty awesome. They've covered a lot of ground in a short period of time. I wonder if they'll focus on Heisei era next, or Millennium?

^ Are you forgetting Gezora, Ganimes, and Kameboas??? XD

As for what they might focus on next, I would not mind either or. However if they go with Heisei there are only two figures that I'd actually buy, Burning Godzilla and Destoroyah. It'd be cool if X-Plus did the same thing with these two that they did for Godzilla '68 and Hedorah, and made them properly scale each other since Dessy is considerably taller than Goji. Those two figures would be welcome additions to my collection if X-Plus ever gets to making them in the future.

Millennium.... I wouldn't mind a Mothra Imago 2003, Gigan '04, Anguirus '04, and Rodan '04... and even a vinyl version of Kiryu.
