How does ordering from Hobby Search work, anything a first time customer should know?

No tricks, just sign up and order like you would from any American site. It's all in English and not an issue at all. I ordered a Megalon from them a few months ago, piece of cake.

What most of the talk on this thread about dealing with the hassle of third-party Japanese services like JapanToDoor, revolves around trying to get the Internet Exclusives. Those are the editions that come with some sort of bonus and are only sold through the X-Plus store. Unfortunately, the X-Plus store is entirely in Japanese and won't ship to any address outside of Japan. Hence, you have to get some third party Japanese service like JapanToDoor to get involed. Sometimes they buy if for you, sometimes you buy it and just send it to them first, but either way, it gets sent to them and then they send it to you, for a big fee of course, plus the additional cost of shipping to them first. In the end, it's not unusual to pay a huge (>$100) premium in fees and shipping for these "exclusives", in addition to all the headache and hassle. However, if you don't care for the exclusives and you just want to buy the regular version while they can be ordered, Hobby Search is an excellent choice.

Unbelievable. I had no idea you guys were getting abused with such fees. I have a contact that I've dealt with for several years and I just pay him anywhere between 1200-2000 yen extra to handle the transaction for me, and this includes local shipping to his place.

No matter how AWESOME they look, I won't spend that kind of money per figure.
I'm cheap like that. :huge:

I'd like to see them come out with a Gunhed, if they haven't already. Gunhed had a pretty cool design.

The internet exclusives aren't even that cool most of the time, not worth the trouble. Just order the standard editions from Hobby Search.

I wholeheartedly agree. Most of mine are the regular versions. Unfortunately, every now and then the Internet Exclusive version includes something useful (like an extra head, extra arms, eye patch, etc) that makes it really tempting. I did spring for the Internet Exclusive Godzilla 1973 because 1) the 1973 is my favorite version of Godzilla, 2) 1973 version is one of the least represented Gojis in toys/figues/kits so I doubt anything better will come along for a long, long time, and 3) it came with an extra "open mouth" head, in addition to the regular "closed mouth" one.

They did, I think Hobby Japan still has it. About twice the price of Biollante though

So, in the email I received from X-Plus... my translator translated the text regarding Rodan as "After ... Will leave a balun, kumonga ... With it, the space Monster?… "

I think we're reading this as after Rodan, they'll possibly announce Kumonga and eventually King Ghidorah but what the heck is "balun"? Any guesses??

The characters being translated as "Bulan" are:

バラン

Varan's name in katakana is:

バラン

So yeah. Kumonga, Varan, and King Ghidorah are on their way!

So the only unannounced "item" from the DAM poster would be the rocket ship X-2. Hopefully it will be the pack-in for an exclusive.
Maybe they'll throw in a saucer with one of the others as an internet exclusive, or AKA the Fire Dragon.

Wow, so that'll leave just a handful of Showa kaijus that haven't been announced.

1. Gabara
2. Kamakiras
3. King Kong (see Mechani-Kong)
4. Mechani-Kong (which has never-ending licensing issues)
5. Titanosaurus

Did I miss any!?
