I always wondered how Ultraman monsters would look under the Trendmasters redesign. Was Ultraman ever in Trendmaster's eye?

As far as I know, no, Ultraman was never in the works at Trendmasters, sorry...

I'm pretty sure Ultraman is a completely different animal in terms of the copyright holders. Although I figure Trendmasters could have probably acquired the rights if they could get permission to do both Gamera and Godzilla lines, if they had been interested at least.

Can anyone get me an audio of the trendmaster's roar figures? I was reading the reviews on the mainsite and they all say that the roars are pretty bad or annoying, and I'd like to know what they sound like.

Did a basic YT search,

Godzilla 10" Roar: https://youtu.be/DhnYVjB4Oyo?t=283 - Pretty decent
SpaceGodzilla 5" Roar: https://youtu.be/ZZBhwwWGwJY?t=868 - Way off
SpaceGodzilla 10": https://youtu.be/c-GcEFXKnt4?t=218 - #EverythingMustHaveRodansRoar #HeiseiMeta
Godzilla Wars Commercial (SpaceGodzilla): https://youtu.be/kY7R5zM-BU0 - Eagle Roar
Godzilla Doom Island Commercial (Biollante): https://youtu.be/QoPeD6MihkE?t=10 - Eagle Again
Godzilla Doom Island Commercial (Spacegodzilla): https://youtu.be/QoPeD6MihkE?t=18 - #HeiseiMeta

Oh god, I always thought those were just for commercial effect, but they ACTUALLY sounded like eagles...
And that's pretty weird that they used Rodan's roar for a lot of them... but then again, Trendmaster's fucked up everyone of their Godzilla figures someway or another... except for Godzilla, which looked pretty normal.

Okay I didn't know if there was a topic for this so I decided to make one. If there already is a topic for it, then you can lock it. But I couldn't find one so. In this thread you can talk about all of the Godzilla figures trendmasters has out.

I really don't understand why the G98 line flopped. Say what you will about the movie or Zilla, but the toys were amazing.
Pacific Rim tanked in the USA, but the NECA line managed to stay afloat, and is still going strong, two years after. Jurassic World was a major success, but the toys were lackluster -and yet, Hasbro is laughing all the way to the bank.
What was different then, regarding the toys? I really don't buy the argument that it was because critics hated the movie, who cares about critics anyway? (if everyone cared, Transformers, Fast and Furious, etc. wouldn't be the big money-makers they are). As for Godzilla fans hating Zilla, well -TF fans hate the Bayformers, and yet their toy line sells.

It wasn't that the toys were bad, but more of the fact that they didn't sell because of the movie's negative reception. The marketing campaign was through the roof for that film, and Trendmasters took a gamble by producing so many toys and products. It hurt them when they couldn't profit off of the merchandise, unfortunately. Ironically, the Japanese Godzilla line is what boosted their sales four years earlier.

Congrats, Lain. If I ever find a kaiju figure being used like that or even just laying on the side of the road, it'll come into my home and join my collection.

I enjoy the Jurassic World toys but yeah they are definitely not as good as they used to be. I wish the Bandai Godzilla toys could be in as big a quantity as the Trendmasters toys were. Does the Transformers movie line really sell that well? I still see plenty of AOE figures on the shelves

Exactly. It's not the toys it was the movie. In Keith Aiken's article on the Jan De Bont Godzilla it mentions that the high point of movie merchandising is 3 weeks before the movie and 3 weeks after and that pre-sales are usually a huge part of merchandise sales...most retailers didn't get to put out the toys until the day of. Add that to the negative reception of the movie and that's what doomed the toy line and ultimately Trendmasters.

The GINO toys were IMO the victim of a radical and unwelcome character redesign, a lackluster movie, and painfully inconsistent toys. In short, the movie character did nothing memorable onscreen, that inspired kids to recreate the movie with toys.

The Trendmasters toys, along with nearly every other G98 merchandise, were subjected to an embargo that did not lift until the film's release on May 20.

This coupled with terrible word-of-mouth, a radically altered character design, and possible overstocking, led to the toyline's downfall.
