Marmit Parababies

Postby Godz » Tue Aug 23, 2011 4:12 pm

I dont have nearly as much knowledge about Marmits as I do Bandais, so, I have a question for you guys. Particularly about this Mothra

http://clubtokyo.org/listings/itemListi ... tentID=749

If that listing is correct, only 10 of the "beige" Mothras were made....we picked one up at G-FEST this year...are these variations considered rare/valuable?

I think with the Mothra it goes back to what I've said before about collecting in general: Low quantity does not necessarily equal high demand. I know that the flesh/beige/tan variants tend to be very low numbered runs for this line, but I personally would prefer to have a painted version of the fig. That's just me, though. I'm sure there are people out there who have the dough to get all of them, but those collectors tend to be few and far between. To the right collector? Worth a lot. To the general collector? Probably not all that desirable.

That's pretty much my thinking. For the record, we got the beige colored and the standard painted together for $50 from Chibi Goji Toys at G-FEST, which thrilled my girlfriend.

How much do the para-babies go for? These are in the 6" scale so I'm considering picking some up for some of the obscure monsters and Godzillas. I saw a bunch of kickass-looking larger Marmits at G-Fest but didn't end up spending on any.

Well, I just bought a PB Showa King Ghidorah for $39.99. Honestly, some people charge an arm and a leg for the PB's, but so far, no single one has cost me more than $50. I wouldn't go above that for too many of them, but there are some...well, let's say I have temptations.

Looking at this line some more, I'm finding quite a few of them *very* appealing. Where do you guys have the best luck finding them, preferably ranging from reasonable to bargain prices?

Ebay all the way. Godzillacollectibles.com had a bunch of them, but they're gone now. ChibiGoji has some, and so does Clawmark. Ebay, however, has your best chance at getting them at reasonable prices.

Oh and they're awesome. Everyone should totally have at least one.

What are the best dealers for these toys? Unlike Bandai figures, seems with Marmits you really only get a few chances.

Oh, eBay can be wonderful, but the non-Bandai selection is usually pretty small., and I've collected most of the Bandai figures within my personal preferred price range.

Does anyone have much experience ordering from Yahoo Japan auctions? If so, which proxies are best, and how much do you end up spending compared to purchasing similar figures off eBay?

I see a LOT more Marmit and similar figures on Yahoo Japan auctions, and the initial prices seem great, but I'm not sure what the *grand total* will look like after fees and shipping.

^I've never gone through a proxy, but from what I've gathered, it's a kind of a crap-shoot. I'm not too sure on the retail price on PB's, but I've got to assume from what I do know, that with proxy prices factored in, you have to be looking at $60 minimum for a brand new fig.

Having said that, I haven't paid more than $50 for any of the PB's that I have. In fact, the G 65 and Rodan 65 combo that I got cost me $65 altogether, so that was $32.50 each. As far as the selection being thin on Ebay, well, that's just how it goes with Marmit's. They're semi-rare, so you just have to get used to the idea of not being able to immediately find not only the fig you want, but the paint job as well. That's kind of the rewarding thing about them; you don't see them everywhere and it's even crazier to snag the one you want. Trust me though, they're out there, you just have to stalk the right places...

Fair point. I don't care too much about the individual paintjobs much so I won't have to worry too much about that at least. I was mostly curious about dealers because I remember at G-Fest there was one booth with nothing but Marmits and I didn't really get too interested until my money was spent, as up until that point I'd believed their prices much higher than they were.

I only have one PB still in the bag and I have...10 of them? I say un-bag them; their paint jobs are great and you usually can't get a really good look at it through the bags and c'mon, they're more fun that way. I don't really keep anything in bags/packaging since I'm not collecting with the intention of ever selling, but I do keep the bags and cards just for completions sake.

Careful guys, these figs get addictive...

I un-bag with a nagging sense of regret, but I know I'm doing the right thing.
