SH Monsterarts!

Let's not make this personal, guys.

Anyway, I just made the Gotengo remark because, as a fully articulated figure, Manda would seem pretty lacking, I think, and would need substantial accessories to sweeten the deal. But you're probably right--Bandai probably wouldn't make the ill-advised gamble.

Sorry, I feel like countering RKZ. Then I won't post on the subject again.

It seems like every time I post around here - especially in the toy subforum - no matter how in depth, on-point or well thought out my posts are there's always someone who shoots back with something personal like "Legion is just an elitist prick" or "Ignore Legion, he's a hater" or "Legion spent $17,000 on toys. He shouldn't judge." After a while that crap just gets old, especially when members who have absolutely nothing to do with the discussion come in the do it.

Either way...Bandai making a Manda of any sort? New or old? Don't make me laugh. This is BANDAI we're talking about. If they bailed out of putting the rest of the FW monsters in the vinyl line when the movie was BRAND NEW I don't for a second see them reconsidering for this far more expensive figure series. A wave of lesser GFW MonsterArts figures has the potential to absolutely cripple the line. As I said before I could see a Millennium Godzilla (any of them), Kiyru, maybe GMK Baragon and POSSIBLY the FW Gigan being made in this series at some point. But I think hell is going to freeze over before BANDAI gives Orga, Megagiras, Monster X, Kaiser Ghidora or the majority of the other FW monsters the time of day in this series.

Manda would be a fantastic addition to the MA line. Just look at Drag Redder from the Figuarts line. Also, the tails of the MA figures are the most impressive part... And Manda is all "tail". A Manda in scale with the MA Goji would be an impressive 18" long as well. I agree, though, an impressive accessory would be necessary.

^Legion... Again there are people who share your opinions who aren't likewise attacked. It must be everyone else, right? My mind keeps going back to another thread where you said something like "I can't believe Kitamura managed to manipulate people into liking the FW Gigan" or some such. You're just so negative and abrasive sometimes. You act like you're the only one who knows the answers and that everyone else is an idiot.

No, no you're right. People just respond to you negatively because they don't like your Dodongo avatar or something.

Ok, so maybe it could be cool? But do you think it's at all likely? Legion makes very good points about Bandai's marketing strategy.

Yes, I'm sure it would be a really cool figure. Marmit did a FW Manda and hit it right out of the park. But I'm not going sit around and dream about something that I KNOW doesn't have a snowball's chance in hell of ever happening.

Alright, as many know, I'm new to the collecting thing. So, I've heard a lot of solid things on the SH Monsterarts series. I would like to know the details on the Godzilla one.

How big is it?
How does it look when next to Bandai 6 inch figures?
Why is it special when compared to Bandai?
It's usually around $70, so it must be a great figure, correct?

A higher price doesn't automatically make something great. If anything, these could be cheaper.

Of course, what I mean is that since Bandai Creations were originally $15 I believe, and these are around $70, they must be of more quality.

Okay, I'll be happy to help!

Destroyer wrote: How big is it?

At full height it's just over 6.2 inches. Most official sources say 6.1. Along the spine it measures an impressive 16 inches in length.

Destroyer wrote:How does it look when next to Bandai 6 inch figures?

I've heard people say it looks okay, if a bit out of place. I keep it seperate personally.

Destroyer wrote:Why is it special when compared to Bandai?

The higher level of detail and articulation make it stand out from the Bandai vinyls and are the main selling points.

Destroyer wrote:It's usually around $70, so it must be a great figure, correct?

Well it is a great figure, but don't let a higher price judge for you which figures are better. I've seen some real garbage for over 100 dollars.

Much cheaper, even.

I'm sorry, but after a lot of thought (and a recent examination of a Godzilla figure), I just cannot justify the price tag on these guys. There is no reason in hell that I can buy something like my new Revoltech Alien Queen for around $35, while the SH toys are literally double the cost. They aren't bulky enough or made of anything that would account for the retail cost, nor are the sculpts intricate enough to suggest that Bandai had substantial extra labor to factor into the price.

That's just my personal assessment, so don't think I'm trying to preach the gospel truth here. But as far as I'm concerned, I don't need to worry about buying these unless they hit the $40-$50 mark.

I wonder if they cost so much just so Bandai can boost the "prestige" inherent in owning one? It would be like some liquor store selling a Michelob Ultra for $50. A lot of people will see the tag and figure it must be good, but it's still a bottle of carbonated piss in the end.

Thanks RedZillaKing. The cheapest I found so far is $59.99, it really is an impressive looking figure. Truly accurate, I will have to pick one up in the near future instead of the Bandai Heisei figure. Nothing wrong with that one, but the SH one just looks a heck lot more impressive. Of course, the Bandai one is just $15, but the SH one looks like a better have altogether.

Maybe I'm wrong, but don't Ultra Acts of similar size also go for pretty high dollar prices? I agree they could be cheaper, but it's not the price alone that's holding me back so far.

You're not wrong. The Ultra Act Ultras go for around 35-40, but the monsters go for around 60-80 each.

It does have a lot more heft and bulk than the Queen Alien, but yes, if compared with that it is certainly overpriced. But its fairer to compare it with other kaiju figures- the Revoltech kaiju commonly come in at $30-$40 (depending on which one). Its easy to find Goji at less than $60 (not $70) nowadays, and he's a heck load bigger and heavier, and of course the price will would be upped a little regardless if its Kaiyodo or Bandai as its, well, Godzilla. So its not that bad. And give it more time and it will likely decrease further in price.

Of course, the effetcs pack are ridiculously overpriced. Esepcially Godzilla's. At least MG's and SG's come with stuff that looks expensive.

I concede that point. For anyone who hasn't gotten the Goji FX pack don't bother. The lil' tanks and such are awesome but I'd price this around 20 dollars w/ shipping. It sure as hell isn't worth what I payed for it.

I figure it will. Like I said, once I start seeing them around $40-$50, then I'd consider picking one up.

What you're really paying for in the Godzilla effects pack are a lot of thick, jointed plastic stands that hold up the jets. I've seen a collectors photo of the entire effects pack set up around the Godzilla figure and all I see are these tiny little jets held up by these huge, clear plastic stands. The only thing of real value is the Super X2, but I got one around the same size from the Machine Chronicles set a few years back for $10.
