Still, it makes you wonder if the United Nations are stupid enough to allow two of Earth's most dangerous threats to humanity on the same island when the two could duke it out in any moment. Hell, why would they even CONSIDER that?

I must have missed it, what page in the story said anything about the UN or any other governmental agency deciding which monsters were on Monster Island?

They're purely set dressing, best as I can tell. Best not to read too much into them.

You guys consider that Monster Island in this comic is not actually "Monster Land" from Destroy All Monsters, but rather the lost island concept seen in Godzilla vs Gigan and Godzilla's Revenge?

Of course, I havent read the comic yet, so I may be completely wrong.

Once again I'm wondering who gave this 1 Star? Lol. I think someone's just being a butt and giving it a low rating.

I think I am going to pick this up tonight. If not tonight then definitely sometime this weekend.

It arrived in the mail today. I was happy with the way it was handled. It had a more refined story than KINGDOM OF MONSTERS, and a duel between two monsters right away.

IDW will just publish ANYTHING...
So I read issue one cover to cover. The monster art is "OK", but I'm spoiled on Matt Frank. The humans however, look like they were formerly filler material for Robert Kirkman's "The Walking Dead". The writing had me in stitches it was so bad. I get to the final page and can imagine the detective getting back to his precinct in Japan, going to his chief and saying, "Ok, srsly! These fairies are gonna tell you how I didn't kill my partner." Meanwhile we all know how testy the big M gets when someone captures his fly honeys. So the chief will probably look out his window at a flattened Japan and respond, "Okey Dokey! I gives you commendation nao!"
I'm going to pass on this series. If it gives you comfort and joy then Moar Powaa to you.

Between Godzilla and Mothra? That wasn't a duel, that was more of a hit and everyone goes back to their business. For something to be a duel, both sides need to be fighting and the fight has to last for a couple of pages.

I read my friend's copy, a pretty good story I have to admit. Still shocked to see King Ghidorah on Monster Island though. The art was good, the pacing was a bit overly fast. Which is to be expected since its a mini series of just five comics. But its story is straight forward and that brushes off the pacing. The main character, though done before, offers a interesting atmosphere. Especially when he decides to use Mothra in order to clear his name. A semi dark anti-hero who's nicely well played. The small conflict between Godzilla and Mothra wasn't anything impressive or all that good. It was okay-ish, more of a teaser, but nothing satisfying.
But overall, it crushes KOM Issue 1 pretty badly. But, surprisingly. I can't get into this mini series for some reason. Its good all around, but I don't find it interesting to me. There's nothing that really catches my interest, there's nothing that has me wanting to read the next issue.

Detective Sato, I feel sorry for him. He's going through so much shit and is trying desperately to clear his name. He's willing to do anything to reach his goals. But for the life of me, I just don't care about him, nor do I care about the situation he's in. Its a great start of the mini series, blows KOM 1 out of the water. But I'm not going to follow it. It just doesn't catch my interest, and I can't find anything that makes me want to stick around. Everyone else, please do enjoy the mini series.

Technically speaking, I know it wasn't much. But KINGDOM OF MONSTERS has yet to feature that.

Its called "build up". I'm sure you know of it clearly since its seen in films, video games, stories of any kind of nature and comics/manga.

I rather have a build up for chaotic monster fighting mayhem then a small conflict..

SPOILER ALERT

Got two varriants of issue 1 today. I was taken by surprise. I thought the usage of GANGSTERS in the title was going to be somthing describing the kaiju. Nope. This is a story with actual Yakuza. This first issue also gets a plus for showing someone steal the Elias (ROM mutha fuka lolz) not because of exploitive greed like what it has almost always been but rather to help a cop save his and his children's lives. Very nice.

Here's my humble review:

http://theklaymorekutlassreview.blogspo ... sters.html

I'm a Mothra fan, and I love the implication in this issue that the Elias might be using Mothra to keep monsters on the island. The human drama is actually the catalyst of the story, and that's so rare. I suspect that, since Mothra will undoubtedly go after the Alias, the other monsters will leave the island.

Extreme humanization of the kaiju. Extreme.

I find that a little ridiculous and hard to believe. It's been known for months that "gangsters" in the title refers to yakuza.

I was just about to say...
Today, at the edge of our hope...

At the end of our time, we have chosen to believe in each other.

Today we face the monsters that are at our door.

TODAY WE ARE CANCELLING THE APOCALYPSE!

I don't keep up with the comics. Nor do I have much interest to. All I know is a list of people who are working on the book, the amount of cover varriants for issue 1, and that 3 issues are out thus far. In regards for the G&G side story, That's all.

Actauly, this is the first time I've really ever really joined in on a discussion on any of IDW's comic books on this forum like this. Sorry for my ignorance. Though I wouldn't say it is all that rediculous. I could just imagine a little comic book with SD forms of the kaiju re-enacting GOODFELLAS or THE GODFATHER to a certain extent but shake it up to make it comedic (though it is something a Japanese publisher is more likely to do).
