Pipp's Baragon vs. Mothra is pretty cool. The Revoltechs should be good for stop motion videos, what with the clicky joints n' all.

Yes. It is.

To the average viewer, suitamation would be hounded as outdated, crap, and cheap.

Godzilla's special effects have gone from eye candy in Showa, and maybe Heisei, but now has turned into eye brussel sprouts: something almost everyone things is bad and that a select few people like.

There was quite a bit of suitmation and miniatures in the Lord of the Rings trilogy and I believe most of the average viewers didn't even notice it.

When it's well done and well integrated with the rest of the films look and formatting then it's all but seamless...

EDIT: Also, just to point out, Tsuburaya's FX are still lauded and studied by FX artists today.

I watched Godzilla vs. Megaguirus with a friend around the time it came out, and he had no idea it was suitmation until I pointed it out to him. "They still do that?"

Wait a minute, how'd you figure out shipping so fast? I'm really considering Gamera, despite having no need for him.

Good luck ever finding it again for that price if you pass it up.

Like Aktion said, about Tsuburaya:

There is a show on SyFy Channel, called "Monster Man", about Cleve Hall( & the folks who work with him ) at SOTA in Los Angeles. They did the FX on a recent DEVO( yes, they're still around ) video, where there was an Ultra-like hero battling a kaiju destroying a city. Cleve designed & wore the kaiju suit, which was inspired by "Gorgo".

Yes, suit-acting is still alive & well. :huge:

That transparent bottom jaw must be really hard to see in the movie because I only see it on toys.

You can see it in the movie if you look really carefully. A transparent jaw on a mech is a rather odd design choice IMO.

Granted. Here's where I over-think it: What's it for? Does it scoop up dirt from the nose drill and feed it out the end of the spigot-like tail? The world may never know...

Man, I personally think that's one of the best Gigans ever. The scale kills it for me though, I'm just not too keen on smaller figures.
