Thats due to the fact that they havent been making good quality films. Transformers, which probably isnt the best example but still, are practically giant monster/disaster films and they do really well

Start making quality new Godzilla films with good special effects and good stories and boom

Actually, your Transformers example goes against you. Those three movies are poor, poor examples of good filmography. However, the second one became one of the highest grossing films in history. Why is this? There's a myriad of reasons.

Giant monster films, however, don't do the things that Transformers did (part of it is the spfx eye-candy. Japanese suitamation is not spfx eye-candy. Del Toro, however, is suitamation spfx eye-candy.).

But, I can guarantee you this: if giant monsters did what Transformers did, The Dark Knight did, or the Avengers did...it would be a better selling genre.

Actually, it was the third one. I might be wrong, but whatever.

Yes, I am incorrect. Transformers 3 is the highest grossing. Excuse my fault, I had not followed the press around those films since the 2nd (But did see the third).

What does this mean? Japanese "suitmation" absolutely IS eye-candy.

Say what you want about the revolteches, but you can't deny, they sure are fun for stop motion.

I looped some fishing wire around Rodan's neck and tail, but left it loose enough for me to stick another wire piece through. Then I taped that wire to different ends of the set. By moving the angle of the wire, Rodan can move along the wire like in the movies. I used this for filming his ram on Gyaos and a scene where he does a low pass over a city, where a sonic boom (created by a fan) knocks the buildings down.

Problem is, for the latter scene, Rodan preformed the most powerful sonic boom of all time, sending the buildings flying into the air, ripping up the black streets they were sitting on, and blowing the heavy cardboard background off the table. :freak: At least I have a good blooper, lol.

Was just about to ask.. How?

But I turned up the brightness on my laptop and I can see everything now that you pointed it out. Awesome! I'mma have to try it soon.

So, just a question. Would prefer that Jet Jaguar get the Revoltech treatment, if possible? How do you think it would be?

What extras would it have? I don't think too much..

Yes. It is.

To the average viewer, suitamation would be hounded as outdated, crap, and cheap.

Godzilla's special effects have gone from eye candy in Showa, and maybe Heisei, but now has turned into eye brussel sprouts: something almost everyone things is bad and that a select few people like.

A little warning before you do. Tying fishing wire is a royal pain.

Haha, I was known as the "knot nazi" in my Troop for a few years, I think I can handle it ;)

Does anyone know of any good stop motion videos with Revoltechs? I know PopInPics did a few.

Pipp's Baragon vs. Mothra is pretty cool. The Revoltechs should be good for stop motion videos, what with the clicky joints n' all.

There was quite a bit of suitmation and miniatures in the Lord of the Rings trilogy and I believe most of the average viewers didn't even notice it.

When it's well done and well integrated with the rest of the films look and formatting then it's all but seamless...

EDIT: Also, just to point out, Tsuburaya's FX are still lauded and studied by FX artists today.

I watched Godzilla vs. Megaguirus with a friend around the time it came out, and he had no idea it was suitmation until I pointed it out to him. "They still do that?"
