Monster Toy Spotlight #6: GMK Godzilla

The color scheme is a bit uninspired (appears nearly black instead of dark/charcoal gray, and his lower midsection body is bit small/skinny in relationship to the actual film. Again, it's an "ok" sculpt, but Bandai's figures for the Godzilla suits from GxMG/GSOS/GFW were a bit more accurate and detailed imo, and I think even the Marmit Monster Heaven figure captured the spirit of the suit better.

Fair points, but I think I might prefer this one to their Kiryu-Goji. I never liked how "flat" their Kiryu-Goji is. I know it's in the usual "neutral" pose, but I think the legs and arms should've stuck out more, they just seem too close to the body. And while the black paint might not necessarily be accurate, I think I prefer it. Fits with the character, at least. The Kiryu-Goji does have noticeably better detail on the skin, though, and it is a wee bit too thin, I'll give you that. All their figures from the Kiryu/FW period were great.

I'm pretty sure that figure was released a few months ago, Entertainment Earth still has it on preorder but I doubt there's anything left to order, unless Medicom sends them more. Generally EE has been unable to fill their quotias and some figures are perpetually on preorder because of that.

The one i posted was from 2009. Diamond and Vinyl Wars resissued the sculpt with a different paint scheme in 2015

i was interested to hear more people's opinions on the similarities in the 25cm vs the Sakai, but i guess the 25cm came out near the beginning of the X-Plus line and there wasnt a lot of buy in yet. It was my first X-Plus and boy was i hooked.

Let me say, I've been wanting this figure for a long time now; and while I might be blinded by desire and suit bias, the 8" G2001 could be the definitive Godzilla vinyl, in my opinion. It has personality, despite it's basic pose; it has solid details in the sculpt & paint; it's big without being huge; it captures the likeness of the suit almost ideally. It feels like the perfect representation of everything Godzilla is in toy form. I'm delighted to have this figure, and I want Bandait to REISSUE IT RIGHT NOW SO EVERY CHILD AND YOUNG COLLECTOR CAN HAVE ONE!
