Monster Toy Spotlight #4: Baragon! (Showa)

One of the very best, most innovative, and most modified kaiju of the Showa era, Baragon is our focus this week! Please share and discuss the many figures of this kickass kaiju.

I'll start off with one of my earliest and still one of my favorite Marmits: the Vinyl Paradise Baragon. Despite being bulky and toy-like, I feel this is one of the figures that best captures Baragon's personality.

Isn't that the first Marmit sculpt from the Godzilla series?
I really love that huge grin it has.

I'd post a picture, but I have 3 GMK Baragons and no showas yet.
Popy, Revoltech, Marmit, and X-plus all have figures of it that I want.

I'm looking forward to see what other people have!

Very good timing with your choice of Showa Baragon, because in about a week or two, I should be receiving the new Xplus DAM set w/ the new 25cm Baragon. Showa Baragon is one of the few holes in my collection, so I can't wait for it to arrive and to spam this thread with photos :baragon: :baragon: :baragon: :baragon: :baragon: :baragon: :baragon:

Love Showa Baragon. Great choice!

I have a reissue of the Marusan, in a photo of him digging out of the ground, but will need to re-upload it. Until then, enjoy the box art for the old Baragon tin toy!

Revoltech Baragon! One of my faves from the line. Pairs nicely with SHMA and SHMA related accessories. I recall grabbing this guy for around 24 bucks. Can't beat that kinda price.

The Revoltech is a fantastic figure. An absolute must-have IMO. Great realistic representation of the monster and a perfect example of what Revoltech figures are capable of--excellent details, paint, accessories, and articulation at a reasonable price.

Anyway, here's a Popy I picked up this year.

Review from Richard Eso/Fresh Vinyl (http://freshvinylhq.com) for:

X-plus 25cm Baragon (crawling pose)

X-plus 25cm Baragon (standing pose)

Xplus sure seems to love Baragon, seeing as they have yet a *3rd* showa Baragon figure coming in a few weeks (will post photos here when it arrives) and they're rumored to be considering a GMK Baragon figure in the near future...you can never have too much Baragon imo! :baragon:

How could you not love Baragon?

Image

- Iwakura "Flame breath" (usually their figures are top-notch, but the eyes on this one are looking in different directions. Not sure if that's a widespread issue or if it's just mine)
- Unknown mini unpainted plastic replica of the 1971 Bullmark remote-control figure. If anyone knows what it's from, I'd love to know. Doesn't say anything on it.
- Bottlecap
- Gashapon (Chronicles 2)
- 8" Bandai
- 4" "Hyper" Bandai

The Bandai vinyl is easily my favorite. Gorgeous figure.

Image

In addition, I recently obtained the "Frankenstein vs. Baragon" set from Iwakura Deluxe (as in two days ago, good timing with the thread).

Image

The Baragon is pretty badass and much larger than I was expecting, but I mainly bought it for Franky. I think it's the only Toho Frankenstein figure outside of the M1 and the Marmit (could be wrong).

Mr. X, the Baragon kit is a reissue (miniature reissue) of the Marusan Baragon plamodel from 1964. I believe the company is Unifive; they produced one for Godzilla, Ebirah, Baragon, a submarine and a fighter jet which were all miniature reissues of the original models. Mine were painted but they were also released unpainted. I believe they did some for the Ultraman monsters as well.

They're actually very cool little kits. They come in reproductions of the box and everything.

Now that you mention it, I vaguely recall having to build it when I got it. Must've gotten it like 5 or so years ago and my memory is shit.

Thanks for the info! Appricieate it. :D

I really need a Para Baby Baragon.

And yeah, Baragon is definitely one of the best Bandai figures.

Image

At one point it was one of the most sought-after figures in the line, I believe. Since then the supply and demand have balanced out somewhat, but it's still a stellar toy.

Every figure in that picture is fucking awesome, Jomei. Shame I only own Titano. I need to get cracking on some searching.

It's not that tall. Baragon isn't that tall of a figure, which makes Ghidorah look bigger.
