King Kong Toys

Hopefully I'll have more success with this topic!

With Godzilla vs. Kong on the horizon - by which I mean it's a whopping five years off - I've become interested in expanding my Kong collection sometime over the next few years, which is exclusively 2005 Kongs at present. But I don't really know what's out there or where to begin looking.

I know 2005 Kong had a shit-ton of merch - most of which I own, specifically all the Playmates figures/sets. I'm more interested in the older Kong incarnations. I know for Toho Kongs, your options are pretty limited. There's Bandai's 8" 1962 Kong (and Mechani-Kong), the 5" Raymundo Kongs (and 2 different Mechani-Kongs), and... not sure what else. There were a few stylized ones, like the 9" "APES" figures or Marusan's.

Don't really know much else. I imagine some others here must have other Kong figures, so I'm curious to know what you guys recommend.

I know Aurora had some King Kong model kits. Probably not what you're looking for but besides X-plus nothing I can think of off the top of my head.

Aside from the Bandai figure of the Toho Kong I don't think there is much. The rights get in the way with good Kong merchandise and most companies find it cheaper to make no-name brand gorilla toys.

X-Plus did action figures of Kong and the Tyrannosaurus from 1933, and there is the McFarlane figure as well. There is also the candy set of scenes from the 1933 film and features Kong and all the dinosaurs.

Myself, I had the McFarlane figure as a kid and later got the Peter Jackson Kong figures which I still have crammed in a box somewhere. They were a lot of fun growing up. My favorite was this large electronic one that roared when you squeezed the chest.

I have almost all of the Playmates Kong '05 stuff, though my pink bat-creatures are missing and my big mosquito figure is broken. Could never find the Supreme Kong or the mini-figures.

Outside of that, I have a few random Kong figures, but nothing noteworthy.

The X-Plus figures look really good. I'll have to get those at some point down the road, but probably not for a while (still focusing on G'14 stuff). Not familiar with small candy toys though. I vaguely recall seeing mini figures of the 2005 Kong from a Japanese company, but not of the classic Kong.

Is there anything for Kiko (Son of Kong) or the 70's/80's Kong(s)?

Only toys I know of for the 76/80 Kong are these Imperials.

Actually just saw some Kong 33 candy toys started popping up on Ebay. They're expensive but feature:

#1 KING KONG
#2 BRONTOSAURUS
#3 T-REX
#4 PTERANODON
#5 KING KONG (Last Battle)

Oh, cool! I vaguely remember seeing these a long time ago, but barely. Those look awesome, and there are even color versions too (EDIT: Of one of them, anyways). But that price is absurd. Hopefully cheaper ones will pop up eventually.

The only thing of King Kong I'll get if released within the next 5 years is a 1962 Kong by X-plus and a Sideshow statue based on LPs upcoming Kong.

Ahhh, the McFarlane Kong. How I love thee.

My stage broke unfortunately, but the figure looks just as good on its own.

McFarlane Kong is one heavy hunk of rubber. I used to make that thing battle my GMK Godzilla as a kid.

Chap Mei's "Wild Quest series" giant gorilla, almost a knockoff of the McFarlane figure:

Wow, I remember seeing that thing at a toy store waaaay back. Even then I was suspicious at how much it looked like my Kong figure at home. I actually thought it was a King Kong product; like a toy for King Kong Lives or something. It came with a truck to carry him off in if I remember correctly.

The Ranymundo Kongs look really good. Anybody have both?

I only have the Mechani-Kong (two grey ones and a silver one). Could've benefited from some highlights at the very least (only paint is the eyes), but it's still a solid figure.
