Got mine today. sculpt and articulation are miles above the 2014. Paint is what drags it down. I got eyes in two different directions. Gonna do a full body repaint. Will post the finished product

The sculpting on this figure. Fantastic. Here’s a look at it without Neca’s Paint ImageImage

Why did you paint it all monotone? The original paint job is perfect and shows up so much more depth and detail than it is now, granted the gum and eyes do look better.

He'll probably use the same shade trick I used. It's much more effective than the off putting conflicting tones the original base figure has.

Definitely a great sculpt underneath, what shades are you thinking of going with?

Doing a Grey dry brushing on the body and Brown for the under belly. I wanted darker colors instead of the light Brown It Originally had. Almost done just need to do the eyes. Gonna post a photo soon then Natural light ones tomorrow

Base coat. Just wanted to post the Monotone photos as it lets you see the actual sculpt better without any washes over top changing how it looks

Funny how the paintless version looks a million times better than the normal one. That shade they chose is so weird.

I really feel like their NECA Rodan will only have ball jointed thigh joints along with the wing swivels and I have a problem with that.

Rodan needs multiple points of articulation in the knees and neck so he could look in front of him while hanging onto a building similar to the leaked concept art.

Promo pics seen to suggest that’s the case. Unfortunate.

Definitely disappointing and not at all what i'd normally expect from a NECA line.. (definitely used to it by now though)

Especially since bigger figures like Otachi had multiple joints in the legs, though one could make the "smaller plastic" argument, it doesn't make sense since Rodan is still a decent sized character. Unlike the much smaller Mothra.

Oh didn't realize you repainted the whole thing, I swear some of the out of the box mold look better than others.

Gotcha, yeah the sculpting is gorgeous on this one, huge improvement over G14. Really wish they would announce a 24" soon and the detail would be even more visible up close.

It’s done. Here’s some crappy flash photos for now that make the eyes look like shit because of the Glossy finish they have. Better photos in natural light tomorrow ImageImage

i dig the coloration, but the sculpt looks way more hidden now due to those paint apps. I do like the head though.

Actually it’s More visible in natural light now. The Dark base coat and Light Wash really Highlights the details without making him stand out due to a heavy wash. It looks a lot more natural now with the darker tones. I’ll post Photos in natural light soon

I actually like how the gums are showing on the 2019 figure. Yeah, really sloppily painted and overdone, but with a bit of tweaking I think it could work without losing the gum lime completely. It gives this figure a fierce look that the 2014 version didn’t have. As it is though, with the gum paint being all over the place, the figure looks like a character from Deliverance.

I got all the paints and stuff and I’m ready to attempt to customize mine. Just hope my hands are steady enough. The pictures that some of you guys posted make this job look really easy. But having the figure in hand, I’m just like, damn...

Oh yeah you'll need the steadiest of hands for those eyes  .

But once you get that done the rest is like clockwork, once you hit it with a base coat and a wash of your choosing, it'll look fantastic.

Plus I'm loving the variations so far, I decided on the dusty iguana look that Godzilla (assuming from trailers) has in Mexico. While G1541 did a more darker, night time variation of the design. Can't wait to see what you go with!

EDIT: My second google eyed NECA Godzilla just came in, so now I'm wondering if I should either keep him in the box, paint him up with a certain powered up color scheme, or just paint him like one of his other KOTM scenes, like the Antarctica scene for example.

The figure is cheap enough that you can make all sorts of variants without going hitting your wallet too hard. I plan on keeping my second figure in the box as is, but I'm also thinking about buying enough one, just in case I fuck up my paint job

I really loved the 2014 figure, and it was actually that figure that got me into really collecting figures to begin with. Aside from the paint blemishes, the 2019 figure is huge improvement. I love the sculpt and a majority of the paint on this bad boy, and the articulation works well enough without looking too segmented.

I have the Monsterarts version on pre-order, and I think the head sculpt on that is a definite improvement over their 2014 version (I really didn't like the liberties taken with that figure). But there's still something about the texture and sculpt work on the NECA that I really dig, I think even more so than the Monsterarts.

I completely forgot to post the final product here. Posting the Video Gallery instead of actual Full blown Photos so I don’t Clog the thread. Used a base coat of Matte black, dry brushing of Grey on the body and Brown on the stomach, a little bit of white for the Claws and the eyes are orange/brown with a Glossy Finish, that looks Like shit in the front shot because you can’t see it well without flash which Makes The eyes look Dumb, dark red in the mouth and white for the teeth. Basically made the whole thing darker. The Grey wash Brings out the details like the original Brown/green wash did, without being too intrusive and changing the entire look. Haven’t seen anyone do this darker Color yet, but I think it suits the Figure Really well. It’s a similar Paint scheme to the SHMA prototype and the Statue they Move around everywhere. Also note of your on Mobile The In Browser player Ruins the Quality of the Photos in the video here’s a normal link so you can view it in its full 1080p https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EVyq0PjKSOc

Went to Gamestop after looking online and they had him in. Made sure I looked to see if he was good and he is alot better. No eyes looking bad the mouth is ok. What do you guys think? So far I like him and I can't wait till Rodan comes out. :)

Image

Close up look on his eyes they don't look too bad but the inside of the mouth should've been pink and his gums are alright.
