I mean, if I had that kind of talent and insight into the sales and marketing labyrinth that is the comic book industry I sure as hell wouldn't be sitting in a forum merely talking about what I'd do and whining about how others are "doing it all wrong". I'd pull up my bootstraps and get to work and go make me some of that Mark Millar money, know what I'm sayin'?

Just, when you write your comics, guys, be sure that I like it, okay? I don't care if anybody else likes it or not, alright? This is Godzilla we're talking about and as a fan, my opinion is the only one that really matters, get it?

Joe Quesada and Joseph Loeb. And Mark Millar isn't as good as he once was.

Look those two up and see how they just about ruined perfectly good franchises.

Every fan has a choice in deciding the fate or future of their beloved franchise, The can decide to buy or not to buy. Without a fan base a franchise is nothing. Lets never forget that.

^Of course.

That fact didn't really come into play with what I was pointing out.

Actually, good way to put it. If you don't like a story, express it by not buying it. However you don't get to decide whether the story should exist at all.

Yup, we know, so we use this thread to make our opinions on these topics known.

There are plenty of places full of very learned people who would laugh in our faces if we tried to talk high-and-mighty about Godzilla.

Yes, but they're not here, just us Godzilla fans. So why mention them?

Taste. You don't get to dictate it any more than I do or anybody else does. As they say, the heart wants what the heart wants, and you can't just call bullcrap on people for it.

We ain't calling bullcrap on your tastes, we're thinking you're way too emtionally invested in this thing.

If you do, keep in mind how close to the edge of A-hole hypocrisy you're getting there. This is why it's almost never a good idea to create by committee, especially when that committee are fans. So...

A-hole hypocrisy? Well that was immature, no need for that. I may not agree with SS4G a whole lot, but I usually think of him as pretty consistent.

Just because you're a fan of a property doesn't mean you have any business deciding the future of your beloved franchise.

No, but since we can voice our opinions, we do have some influence on what creators will produce. You do to, Captain, it's just your opinion is in the minority. Oh, and for the record, I like Kingdom of Monsters, but I do think it has some serious problems.

I'm not arguing your tastes.

I'm arguing your whining.

Captian Aktion wrote:See what I was saying earlier? Everyone can dog on it all day, when I defend it, I'm whining. Ironic, much?

I think it's been said before, but we're not getting on your opinion anymore. We're just annoyed by how emotional you are about this matter. We think it's silly. I don't mind your opinion on KOM, and there are others who don't mind it either, and people can even say openly they disagree with your opinion. Nothing wrong with that.

You're not helping yourself, Cap. SS4G isn't attacking you, but merely pointing out your responses are far more heated than necessary, and guess what? He's right. Your responses HAVE become very emotionally charged, and you've lowered yourself to insults and names. Chill out a bit, come back later before you respond to this.

And just remember, everyone...it's just a comic. If someone disagrees with you, life will go on.

^Just to be clear, my A-hole hypocrisy comment wasn't directed at anyone in particular, just anyone who is getting close to the thinking/actions I described.

I think it's soooo strange that you guys think I'm "heated" or "emotionally charged". If I were speaking all of this to you, it would be in an even-toned deadpan, not hysterics. Perhaps some of my sentiments sound rough and that's where you get that from? I really don't get it.

Again, so strange to me. I guess I'm too new to forums to get HOW you're SUPPOSED to argue and disagree with people, especially people who just flat tell you,"you have no merit in your opinion, mine is the true opinion."

I've gotten SO much flack for liking this comic and all of it is coming from people who should be open minded enough not to bash on someone for liking it and then I'M the one who's too heated, inflammatory, stupid, etc.

How does that make any sense?

EDIT: I've never, ever, ever, ever said that anyone has to agree with me, or that my opinion trumps theirs G 1995. Yet I've gotten that treatment from the get-go. I don't know where you get the idea that I'm arguing BECAUSE we disagree. I'm arguing because I truly want to engage in intelligent discourse on the merits of shortcomings of a product I enjoy. That's what I'm trying to do, at least.

Cap, it's the internet. Our minds read things certain ways, and to us it definitely looked heated. Even I thought you were a little heated in the beginning.

Again, so strange to me. I guess I'm too new to forums to get HOW you're SUPPOSED to argue and disagree with people, especially people who just flat tell you,"you have no merit in your opinion, mine is the true opinion."

Again, your post seemed a little pissed. And we're not banging on your opinion, some of us just disagree. Do I think some people on here think their opinion is always right? Yeah, but we can just agree to disagree. That IS a choice here.

I've gotten SO much flack for liking this comic and all of it is coming from people who should be open minded enough not to bash on someone for liking it and then I'M the one who's too heated, inflammatory, stupid, etc.

We're not bashing you, Captian. No one has called you angry, or stupid, or anything else like that as far as I know. Your POSTS, however, seem heated, and well...immature would be a way of putting it. You are not stupid, nor do we think you're pissed off, but your posts have become rather heated and intellectually lacking.

I shall only approach the quotes that pique my interest.

There are plenty of places full of very learned people who would laugh in our faces if we tried to talk high-and-mighty about Godzilla.

Yes, but they're not here, just us Godzilla fans. So why mention them?

And there are far more places where you can discuss Godzilla with learned scholars in an intellectual way. I've gone to the MLA Convention, the Sigma Tau Delta International convention, and various other places and discussed the themes and interpretations of Godzilla and the giant monsters with Ph.Ds. Their response to me? "Kid, you've latched onto something interesting and new. Continue your work."

So, there are learned scholars that enjoy looking at Godzilla in an intellectual way.

If you do, keep in mind how close to the edge of A-hole hypocrisy you're getting there. This is why it's almost never a good idea to create by committee, especially when that committee are fans. So...

Oh, yes, we can totally influence the future of our beloved franchise and genre. Just because you've squandered your life with that idea doesn't mean that the next generation of fans have to. We can becomes writers, scholars, filmmakers, special effect artists, etc. and influence the franchises and genre. The existence of a power-less fan is superficial and fundamentally false.

Thank you for the support, G1995.

Believe it or not, I've found that to be the norm (or at least a reasonable majority) in those sorts of crowds. It's hard to shake the idea of academia looking down its nose at genre work; it's actually become something of a point of pride in certain fan circles. However, I've come to see that the truth is much less incendiary. Your average teacher or professor is likely to be fairly astute, and if there's merit in a piece of work, they'll admit it.

Now, the pseudo-intellectuals...they are the motherf**kers that look at genre fiction like its something they scraped off their boot. Just think, it would take a profoundly close-minded person to watch Godzilla '54 and come away thinking that it was not an important work.

G 1995 knows his stuff. And indeed, he is the cure. :P Now it's going to be weird to see KOM go under a different title... I just wonder how it's going to work. I know that there is going to be a different creative team. But I'm hoping for a world-wide post-apocalyptic world with somewhat of a darker atmosphere to it. Now I heard people say how they hate Powell, but he wasn't all too bad. From what I've heard, KOM was meant to run up to 20 issues or some crazy number... The only real problem would be his pacing and where he is; Powell just flew through time like Rodan soaring through the sky and tried to condense too many ideas into merely 12 issues. If he had those extra 8 issues, I'm sure some things could've worked out fine: more heated debate on using nuclear weapons on Godzilla (and Godzilla's raid through Tokyo), more Rodan destruction, more story on why to hate Jerseyfied (if you will), more fighting between Godzilla and Anguirus, more time seen for MG's building process... I can go on. However, I can give credit to Powell's grim dark world that was featured in the first 8 issues. Now I don't mind Ciarmella's traditional kaiju style to things, but I prefer Powell's take better. He seems to know a good idea on the ridiculous responses that the general public is capable of pulling out of their a--

If I was to hazard a guess as to what is happening, it's this;

IDW is "ending" KOM and calling the next series a "sequel". The proper term is a "soft reboot", where the previous 12 issues won't be flat-out ignored, but they will have little to no relevance to the next series. If you want them to tie in, cool! if you want to ignore the previous 12 then that works too. But as the new series goes on, the previous 12 will become increasingly irrelevant as it continues.

The result is that the fans who like KOM/general public who is a bit more lenient won't feel like they wasted their time, people who didn't like it can go forward with a fresh mindset.

I'm a little informed as to how comic book companies roll with this stuff. One of the older types can correct me if this assessment is inaccurate, though.

I do hope there will be a sequel to Kingdom of Monsters, because so far it's doing better. My recommendations for IDW if they plan on doing a second series to, Kingdom of Monsters.

1. Have Matt Frank do the interior artwork.

2. Bring in more monsters, especially Mothra she needs to show up, other than that definitely Titanosaurus (Though they should save Destoroyah, Gigan, Hedorah & SpaceGodzilla later).

3. No more celebrity spin-offs PLEASE!!! Last thing we need is another lady gaga & ugh jersey shore.

4. I guess put Miki Saegusa in the series, if not then a new main character, from Japan.

I've only read up to Issue #6 of KOM and stopped... it got terrible.

I have yet to read Gangsters and Goliaths and Legends, but from what I've seen of the two mini series is a lot better than KOM all together. KOM came off as a satire of our modern world and government. I think that's where everything fell short. The comic should be an escape, not a reminder of the world we live in and the crappy governments that rule our daily lives. When I read a Godzilla comic I want to be placed into a world where politics no longer matter, it's all about survival. KOM had no charm in its story either. It was dull and dragged on for too long. Also the artwork sucked after Issue #4.

Hopefully this 'new' series following KOM would be better and actually introduce a more linear story with likable characters and better artwork.

Completely disagree with this. His kaiju art is unparalleled as far as a comicbook sensibility, yes. I'm a huge fan in that aspect. But his human characters are horrid. They're pre-teenish anime musings.

You must read Godzilla: Legends Issue 3! It features both Titanosaurus and Miki. It also boasts the best art and story out of any of the IDW Goji comics so far, hands down.
