Re: City Diorama / Buildings for Kaiju Figures
Hello all,
New to the forum and looking forward to contributing, as well as learning from the group. With that said, I've been lucky enough to have worked on a Godzilla project for our local magazine Okinawa Living (yep, the island that King Seesar comes from) celebrating the big G's anniversary. I utilized several manufacturer's products in various scales to force perspective in our tabletop workspace. we used Gamecraft Miniatures MDF/cardstock buildings in addition to Tomix, Tomytec, GreenMax, Walthers and Woodland Scenics (among many others) to help create the illusion of 1954 Tokyo. I really enjoyed using the Gamecraft buildings since they had structures that were predamaged (The miniatures are used for wargaming but are generic enough to fit into almost any era and are super-easy to modify/customize) and were really easy to put together. I'm now in the preplanning stages of an Ultraman/Ultraseven project that's about a year out and have come across an ebay reseller called Outland Models who make snap together plastic buildings (N scale) that have a very Japanese feel to them and fit well alongside the offerings from Tomix/Tomytec/GreenMax. I just put together two today and can't wait to knock out the rest and start detaling and weathering 'em. Will report on my findings once they are complete. I've attached links below and I'm not a rep or associated in any way to Gamecraft Miniatures/Outland Models except as a customer. Enjoy!

Big thank you for those links to those buildings. Not too expensive and very nice looking. Might have to look into getting some.
I will explain slowly why you are wrong.

Re: City Diorama / Buildings for Kaiju Figures
Just bought a small lot of N and Z scale buildings from Hobby search. They were $11 each including two dioramas of a street corner in Japan. Can't wait to see how they scale up with my collection.

I'm making my own buildings. I'm using old model kit frames for street lights, i make the actual light part with clay. I mostly use the frames for power lines and poles for factories, nuclear, and electrical power plants.
This is the beginning of the end.

Sorry to bump but does anybody know any good ones that fit with NECA Godzilla 2014? I am looking at ruinscape and wondering if that would be good.

The 12"HTT or the 24"HTT? The 12 is 1/700 scale and the 24 is the 1/350 scale, just in case you are curious.Nathus214 wrote:Sorry to bump but does anybody know any good ones that fit with NECA Godzilla 2014? I am looking at ruinscape and wondering if that would be good.

Z scale buildings would work for tall 12 inch figures. There is ZZ scale too but very rare. But you can get away with Z scales. Sometimes N scale (great for 30cm Xplus Showa kaiju).

Would Z Scale work well with the X-Plus Godzillas like '14, '03, and '55?ILL GREEN wrote:Z scale buildings would work for tall 12 inch figures. There is ZZ scale too but very rare. But you can get away with Z scales. Sometimes N scale (great for 30cm Xplus Showa kaiju).

Re: City Diorama / Buildings for Kaiju Figures
Stuck at work tonight but I'll grab a couple N and Z scale buildings and compare them to a couple XPlus figures. The '54 is almost the exact height of the '14 Goji so I'll be using that since I don't have the '14. Will post tomorrow at dawn.

Re: City Diorama / Buildings for Kaiju Figures
I don't know whether someone mentioned this already but some good buildings for kaiju toys are the ones produced from Bandai for their Ultra City line (you know these 10 buidlings + a bridge/ tower and an Ultra + Seijin/ Kaiju).
They may aren't very detailed but you can make some very good pictures/ movies with them.

Two 3 story buildings. The large one is N scale and the small Z scale. The '54 Gojira is just about the same height as the '14 so feast your brains. The truck is N scale.

Re: City Diorama / Buildings for Kaiju Figures
Cool, and I think the N-Scale works better with '54 as he's only 50 meters while Z-Scale works better with '14 as he's 108 meters. Now I know what buildings to buy when I make a diorama of the X-Plus G'14.ILL GREEN wrote:Two 3 story buildings. The large one is N scale and the small Z scale. Are you tired of looking for ruined buildings small enough for your collection. Look no further than Sankei z scale paper model buildings. Its thick cardstock material and can be cutted and customized into ruined kaiju damaged buildings.

Re: City Diorama / Buildings for Kaiju Figures
I picked up two sets of these out-of-production hardwood Skyscraper blocks made by "Haba" to use with my SHMA figures:
Based on the window spacing, I believe the buildings are in the 1:500 scale range. While not perfect, they scale very well with SHMA figures, and look extra-awesome with mechas and Super-Xs displayed in-between buildings Two sets gives me enough to build a city block for Godzilla to stroll down. When they come up on eBay, expect to pay around $40+ per set.
