There also appears to be an Ultraseven, though I cannot seem to find a picture.

Anyway, since he seems obscure, he might be rare, so I say give him a try, and if you don't like it, re-sell him. I'd take him off your hands.

I saw this online not too long ago and referenced it on another post somewhere but didn't think anyone knew about it. I have no clue what it's like but I was thinking the same thing about it as an alternative.

What are these? (Help Identify Random Godzilla)

Post by terrypierson »

I've accumulated a few "mystery" kaiju items I'm hoping you guys might have some info on.

Most of these I've had since I was a kid and have recently rediscovered. I've failed to find any brandings on any of them.

Note MonsterArt box for scale. Feel free to ask any questions.

I had one of those bootleg Red kings back around 1995. Arcade type places 9Discovery Zone, Chuck-e-cheese and the like) in malls and strip centers had a bunch of them in the mid 90s that you got by trading in tickets.

Man I dig that orange keychain one. I actually remember seeing one in those I Spy books as a kid and wanting one really badly.
And darkcancer, I remember those places having all sorts of awesome prizes, including an inflatable Godzilla. I could never manage to get enough tickets though, how the heck did you manage to do do it!?

Thanks for the insight, guys. I kind of figured most of them were bootlegs. Though I admit I thought the finger puppets were probably legit (mainly due to Gigan's presence).

No harm, as I've said this is all stuff I've had forever. And they're still pretty cool

@Creature22 It's funny, now that you mention it I seem to have a memory of being thrilled at finding the keychain in an I Spy Book as a kid... (I already had it way back then). Very cool

And likewise, but not near as vividly, the thought of dollar store connected to those finger puppets rings something of a bell

Identify This Mothra?

Post by Mr. X »

I have this strange Bandai Mothra figure, the 8" GMK Mothra 2001. It looks like the theater exclusive, but it's a red/pink color instead of purple. Here's some pics:

The tag is the same as the regular Mothra, but it has this sticker on the back:

It's not listed at Vinylmaddness:
http://www.vinylmaddness.com/bandaifigures2.html

Nor is it on CT:

It's some sort of exclusive figure, but that's all I know. If anyone can identify for me, I'd be thankful!

Most likely the colors faded away or bleached out due to the figure sitting in direct sunlight for too long.

The only thing stopping me for thinking this is the tag. Does anyone have pics of the purple exclusive Mothra's tag? Does it have just a sticker on it to tell that it's an exclusive? Don't they usually make a new tag for the exclusives? I know that several theater exclusive figures have new tags, or are at least they're colored B&W.

This is true as well. Have there been any other cases of translucent exlusive figures suffering sun damage?

Well, apparently the previous owner did. ;) Possibly. Again, does anyone have pics of the purple exclusive Mothra's tag? That would most likely provide an answer.

You have the theater exclusive. The theater exclusive was released as clear purple/violet vinyl. The colors on yours is probably discolored to redish/pink because of exposure to sunlight. The kanji on the tag between the 2 stars state "Theater Limited."

Look at the bright side. You now have a uniquely colored Mothra. And its all thanks to the sun.

So, it's just been discolored by the sun, eh? Oh well. I suppose it is unique, though. Thanks everyone! Mystery solved!

Examples of 2 theater Mothra's color fades due to possible exposure to sunlight.

The previous owner must have had my Mothra in the sun for a looong time, 'cause it's completley red/pink. Still, thanks for the identification!

Even though it technically is damaged, that's very sweet looking.
