What are these? (Help Identify Random Godzilla)

Postby terrypierson » Sun Aug 12, 2012 8:37 pm

I've accumulated a few "mystery" kaiju items I'm hoping you guys might have some info on.

Most of these I've had since I was a kid and have recently rediscovered. I've failed to find any brandings on any of them.

Note MonsterArt box for scale. Feel free to ask any questions.

All bootlegs, I believe. The second figure is a knockoff of a Bandai finger puppet. The third toy is either a genuine Takara "sparkie" figure, or a knockoff. The last figure is obviously a knockoff Bandai Red King.

I had one of those bootleg Red kings back around 1995. Arcade type places 9Discovery Zone, Chuck-e-cheese and the like) in malls and strip centers had a bunch of them in the mid 90s that you got by trading in tickets.

Man I dig that orange keychain one. I actually remember seeing one in those I Spy books as a kid and wanting one really badly.
And darkcancer, I remember those places having all sorts of awesome prizes, including an inflatable Godzilla. I could never manage to get enough tickets though, how the heck did you manage to do do it!?

Bash the machine a couple times and the ticket's are yours.

Thanks for the insight, guys. I kind of figured most of them were bootlegs. Though I admit I thought the finger puppets were probably legit (mainly due to Gigan's presence).

No harm, as I've said this is all stuff I've had forever. And they're still pretty cool

The Bandai Finger puppet knockoffs could be found in party packs. I remember finding them in party stores and dollar stores as a child.

@Creature22 It's funny, now that you mention it I seem to have a memory of being thrilled at finding the keychain in an I Spy Book as a kid... (I already had it way back then). Very cool

And likewise, but not near as vividly, the thought of dollar store connected to those finger puppets rings something of a bell
