I just want to express how genuinely excited I am that something like this can/is happening (although it looks like I might have to buy a new computer to enjoy it).

We are truly lucky to have people as passionate about the source material as Matt and Chris involved, and also Simon who has worked so hard on the past three games (Thanks).

I am behind this project full steam! I cannot wait to see this thing materialize. Hopefully we raise enough to get this onto consoles so it can be enjoyed by a wider audience!

I did have kind of a neat design idea

For a lobby instead of waiting and looking at a screen before someone joins your fight you could be controlling/watching your monster approaching the battlefield like you would see in the movies either Godzilla swimming towards land, walking through the countryside, or maybe you would be fighting a few jets/battleships as a minigame (ie dragon ball z capsule collecting). Just a thought as I know there is a disconnect between fan desires and development reality!

Im not sure if this news has been givin but, question 1, release date updates? I want some updates on when it will be released. Question 2, PS3? Will it be playable on PS3? Last question, how long do we have after the donations begin? Thanks! P.S. Im new here :g2k:

LOVE this idea. Reminds me of Smash Bros. Brawl, where you get to beat up on the sandbag while waiting for an online match to start. Both ideas you pitched (moving towards the battle or fighting jets and ships) sound awesome to me. Wailing on a skyscraper or playing a little boulder volleyball would be fun little time-killers too.

I'm putting together the kickstarter campaign page now (it won't launch for a month yet - be patient!) and I'm once again aware that my video / web design skills are pretty mediocre.

Is there anyone here who would like to contribute to the game by masterminding a few snazzy-looking pages? Matt will probably provide art support, but it would be great to have someone figuring out what size pieces, etc.

I hope it is like Godzilla Unleashed, but good. The concept behind the Pipeworks games is just fine...however, you need to:

- Fix the *HORRIBLE* control from GU
- improve the graphics
- improve the buidling destruction system (Look at the destruction system from the Sega Dreamcast Godzilla Generations for reference)
- more monsters (removed Krystass and Obsidiot for new kaiju, such as Hedorah, Gorosaurus, Ebirah, Battra, Monster X, Keizer Ghidorah, Manda, Gabara, etc.)
- add some TOHO kaiju that weren't in a G film (i.e. Gaira, Sanda, Gezora, Kameba, Ganimes, Dogora, Magma, etc.)
- give each kaiju their own unique ending, not just the same general ending.
- Release it for the PS3 and Xbox 360, *NOT* just the Wii or Wii 2.
- For God sakes, drop Fire Rodan for the classic Showa Rodan.
- Once again, please use showa or Heisei incarnations for King Ghidorah, *NOT* the pathetic GMK KG (which is *not* popular among fans).

Just my two cents...

Grrr- had a long reply here, but lost it somehow. :(

Menu systems are, consistently, the biggest headache and drain of resources on any project. Networking menus especially. So doing something like Supergeon suggest might actually simplify things - because it uses something existing (monster engine) to replace something hard to make (matchmaking screen).

But this begs an important question - what sort of matchmaking features do we need, and which could we skip? Let's discuss:

1 - Voice chat. Not going to happen. But there are tons of good free alternatives like Skype or TeamSpeak. text chat is a snap.

2 - Party system like Xbox Live. It's nice to create a party, and then know that you will be with those people in game after game.

3 - Current activity / match activity data. It's nice to know, when you can't find a game, that there are 6,000 players out there in matches. Otherwise you feel alone!

4 - Detailed data about current matches. If we allow filtering, wouldn't it be nice to know whether your filter settings are too strict?

5 - Player kick / banning. On the PC, there are no mods. Unless we want to build in a reputation system or similar?

6 - Game type / monster filtering. We could let you say "no Destroyah" or "no original monsters" or "Toho monsters only!" These sort of menus are hard to make, and clutter up the screen a bunch. So do you really want them?

7 - Ranking system. Do we want to score wins and losses? Is this that sort of game? Do we make the data public, or just use it for internal matchmaking?

It's also useful to describe things in terms of currently available games. For example, do you like the system in TF2? Starcraft? Referencing something we can look at is a big help.

In other news...
I have a poll up in a separate thread to estimate how much $$ per person we might reasonably expect. I figure donations from the community here will be better than from the community at large, so I ignored most of the largest donors.

But even then, the average donation is $122. Which means we would only need 2,500 people to donate in order to make this game fully funded. Can we get 2500 people to donate? I'm thinking YES.

Yes - I think coming up with a title is our #1 priority.

But remember - we need a name for the overall project which is IP-neutral. It can't have the word "Godzilla" in it. Then we need names for each release - let's assume that our first release will be Toho-based.

Brand name could be:

Ultimate Monster Combat
Giant Monster War
Kaiju Battle Network
etc...

Toho release could be:

"Godzilla" (simple, to the point, a classic!)
"Godzilla: battle for the stars"
etc...

Lol I don't blame you. The song they used for to promote it, The Memory Remains by Metallica, has been stuck in my head for months.

As for a title, what about Kaiju Klash? Seems simple,and gets the point across that it's a fighter.

Title goes with the fact we may see Godzilla, Gamera, Kong, Ultraman and Original kaiju all under the same game.

YES. I agree with everything, particularly the building destruction and better roster (Not that G:U's was bad or anything save for Krystalak and Obshittyus)

On topic, I might be able to donate $30 if I get lucky.

^Okay to answer your questions Mr. Strange...
1) I would say at least have text chat for PC, but voice chat for Consoles.

2)Yes, Hosting should be included.

3)A good lobby of all games ready to join would be nice instead of random quick game or even a selectified search engine.

4) Filtering is okay but again, coulld just have a lobby and filter that.

5) I think player kick should only be in more than 1v1 games like 2v2 but there should be Mods or at least someone to monitor what is going on in case of an emergency. Hopefully you don't elect Titano to run it :P

6) Yes their should be gametypes. That would be a great addition.

7) Lastly have a ranking system. Not something over the top but a simple K/D, Win/Lose, favorite monster type thing would work out fine.


Also to answer your name option.

All-(Kaiju: Genesis of Monsters) Since it is the creation of multiple Kaiju based games.
For Godzilla- (Godzilla: King of the Monsters or Godzilla: Kaiju War)
For Gamera- (Gamera: Guardian of the Monsters or Gamera: Kaiju War)
For Ultraman- (Ultraman: Hero of the Monsters or Ultraman: Kaiju War)
