Critical Mass: Want it or don't want it?

Postby Godzilla165 » Mon Jun 25, 2012 6:36 am

Would you want to see it return in a new Godzilla game, but toned down a bit? Because in Unleashed, when you had it, you were an unstoppable God. Fun, yes, but got repetative after a while because even on hard no one could stop you. So would you enjoy having it back but having it to where when you go critical, its more of a tactical advantage rather than ending the fight in a couple of minutes, and if you don't know how to use it correctly, you'll get cumberstomped.

Add more to your titles, seriously.

And no, just no.

Critical Mass as it existed in G:U wouldn't really work unless the combat system was identical to G:U.

Critical Mass "promoted" all attacks to be knockdown attacks. In G:U getting a knockdown was a big deal - so going critical and getting knockdowns left and right was a bit overwhelming.

In StE Rage mode promoted all attacks - but since so many attacks were already knockdowns, it wasn't as much of a shift.

My point is that the underlying mechanics of combat play a huge role in the feel of something like Critical Mass. We may include something similar, but since the plan is to return to a more StE-esque combat style, it will probably be more like Rage Mode in execution.

The closest thing to Critical Mass in the new game I want is this.

This very much. Instead of CM how about we get the thing that inspired it, the real deal, Burning Godzilla?

I agree it could be used as character skin that we can download, or something like that.

LOVE the look of Critical Mass. HATE the function.

Basically I want the visuals of CM with the mechanics of Rage.

Na. I liked rage moves better. Some of them were pretty unique.

Rage attacks are also a must, they were awesome (I particularly liked Gigan's blade attack)

      ^G 90's kicked ass though.
I liked it, but I prefer the Rages.

I have to agree with most everybody else, I would prefer Rage mode came back instead. The look of critical mass was pretty cool though. If a super mode like Rage or Critical Mass is included I would rather have it tied to an energy meter that you build up through fighting, instead of picking up an item.

I would prefer a mix: have the kaiju gain a Critical Mass-like appearance, but with their Rage attacks. I was thinking for all the kaiju aside from Godzilla(who'd look like his meltdown mode) would have a red glow like the Ubercharge from Team Fortress 2.

Critical Mass was broken. It made my Biolante and King Ghidorah campaigns far to easy when combined with power surges(but it did make the level Tyrant really effing fun). I want Rage back, just have some of their powers changed.

I would like the look and method of getting Critical Mass. The designs are much cooler than the dull red color that indicated Rage before, and I felt that destroying crystals made Critical Mass more like a deliberate choice rather than getting lucky and grabbing a power up. I do, agree, however, that the mechanics should work like rage (which, if what I read about Kaiju Combat when I lurked on this board is to true, is likely due to the gameplay being more like GSTE instead of GU), and you should be able to end it ahead of time with a Rage move. So, IMHO, I think the best course is a hybrid between Critical Mass and Rage.

I prefer rage over critical mass and would rather see rage in a new game. Critical mass was ok, but I missed the signature attacks that came with rage.

      Personally I loved both.

I would love a feature where you could build up a meter, And once it's full, you could choose to either go critical, increasing your attack and defense ( also getting the larger burning look) or getting one super powerful rage attack to really hit your opponent hard.
Don't try to be something else. Don't try to be less. Great things are going to happen in your life. Great things. And with that will come great responsibility.
