Just for fun: Let's talk about a potential Godzilla anime.

Just for fun: Let's talk about a potential Godzilla anime.

I'm not sure if I can sum it up, but here it goes.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FIeLlDN8RsM
Humans and kaiju being killed in gorn-tacular ways that border on Refuge in Audacity.
A nude, human seductress tempting Godzilla, only to be dissed. She sheds her skin, revealing her truly disgusting true form.
Cheesy English dubbing, complete with gratuitous F-bombs.
More titties.
More gorn.
Even more titties. This time, with tentacle rape, courtesy of Gezora.
In a word: Streamline style.

No.

Not every anime is gore and tits and rape. Some of them are for kids or just people of all ages. The sooner people realize that the sooner they can stop treating anime fans like were psychopaths or sex offenders. Just make an anime or cartoon where Godzilla fights other monster. The worst I would want carnage wise is the monsters bleeding from a cut or a bloody nose.

Ohoho, you're bad.

Sorry if I pissed in your cornflakes, Living Corpse. I'm more partial to anime of the late eighties and early-to-mid nineties. Don't take it too seriously.

I'm not sure how you got the idea I'm pissed. I just find it foolish to think Toho would ever allow even half the stuff you said for a Godzilla anime, if they won't make an R rated Godzilla film I'd doubt they'd make a mature Godzilla anime if they ever even make one.

Yeah, I guess Godzilla's been one of those characters that can appeal to any age group with every passing film. I appreciate darker and edgier takes on classic characters, and dark stuff in general, but if it's overdone, I become apathetic, or worse, depressed. With a mainstream franchise like Godzilla, there is definitely a line that shouldn't be crossed, for both commercial and artistic reasons. At most, another Godzilla film would be rated PG-13, as it covers a broad demographic of filmgoers. Throwing in gorn and sex would not work for the advantage of Toho, and here's why... it's freaking Godzilla. The guy is a cultural rock star in Japan, and touches every social and age group in the country. George Takei went on the record to say that most Godzilla fans are children of Godzilla fans. If one were to make an anime or film which featured Godzilla going around dismembering other monsters and having sex, the result, while sounding cool on paper, would be disastrous. Fans would be alienated, "veterans" would become disillusioned or offended, and Toho would have a shitstorm of angry letters from parents concerned about the fact that their child's role model has become a borderline sociopathic, unappealing dick. There's a reason why the Dark Age of Comics came about in the nineties.

The LAST thing I want to see is Godzilla "stained", so to speak, by heavy swearing, gore and sex scenes.

I do not like this material at all; I think it degrades a film or television show to some extent.

A Godzilla anime might be cool; I'm not really familiar with the genre, so I don't know. I'm also alright with a LOW level of graphic violence, akin to what we saw in the '70's Goji films.
...But don't turn Godzilla into an R/M-rated franchise.

First of all, it's called Japanimation ...Least it was last time I checked... which was 1987. Secondly, Godzilla would have blue hair. You gotta quote Strong Ba-I mean have blue hair.

Godzilla is one of those franchises that doesn't need nor should ever be over-lased with sex, gore, an constant F-bomb's no matter how ''dark or serious'' they plan to take it too.

Godzilla should always be at a steady balance, I know were speaking of a Japanese anime series but regardless it would just alienate a huge part of it's audience which when most people either hear or get into Godzilla there children.

Any discussion on this is ultimately moot, since obviously Toho would never go through with something like this idea. Thank Neptune.

Now, a more sensible, kid-friendly anime show along the lines of GTS, on the other hand... that, I can see happening. Wouldn't mind seeing it happen, either. I'm not much of an anime fan (I don't care for most of the art or animation styles I've seen), but it is of course appropriate given that Godzilla is Japanese himself. I might give it a shot if it turned out well.

A Godzilla anime sounds like a good idea. Monsters fighting each other while humans try to fight them or escape from them.
An Action/Drama/with little parts of comedy would be ok. And god...No Nudity ,Super Gore or Swears of the butt.
Unstoppable Fury , Unthinkable Power , Unbreakable Will.

Yeah this, you don't need all that to be "mature". Gojira was a pretty mature film when it came out and the worst we see is people being vaporized, dead bodies, a city turned into a wall of flames and people with radiation sickness.

I wouldn't mind seeing a serious anime about Godzilla, just not too adult oriented to where kids can't view it. Anything that's like GTS from the late 90's would be cool, or even just a little darker and more serious for teens and up I'd welcome. Just no nudity or sexuality, no extreme gore, no (or very little for more 'serious' style) swearing. An anime series would allow people to enjoy the characters as they develop over the series and show a monster fight just about every episode / every other episode.

Definately no tentacle action or gore.

A dark Godzilla anime would still be geared for older kids. A tone similar to GMK might make a successful venture, but with Godzilla as the hero/anti hero.

Id want atleast a tiny bit of gore, like Ghidorah's heads being decapitated, or Godzilla ripping chunks of tkin and sinew off of Fake Godzilla to reveal a mechanical interior.

But yeah im all for a Godzilla Anime.

A Godzilla anime sounds good, but not with the sex and extreme gore.
More along the lines of what Gyaos and edgaguirus said.

^I'd also much like to see something like that. However, I feel as if that falls less into anime, and more into western animation, mostly due to the simplified (though quite awesome) art style.

Anyway...

If a Godzilla anime does somehow come to pass there are a few things I'd like to see from it:

- A continuing, intelligent storyline. It should also be easy enough to follow so anyone who tunes in a bit late can figure out what's going on.
- Should be appropriate for most (if not all) ages. If we're going by movie ratings, think PG, maybe low PG-13.
- Intelligent humor. Not sure I can give examples of what this means, although, I don't think there's a whole lot to worry about, given that most of the anime I've seen strays away from overt toilet humor. Not that it's completely gone, just less...obvious.
- Solid, believable human characters. Pretty self-explanatory.
- Solid, believable(?) monster characterization. Godzilla and co. should not just be plot devices, or a means to an end.
- Consistency. Within the story, within characterization, within beams, fights, etc. Everything.
- Good artwork/ monster/character designs. I'll cite most of Studio Gainax's work as the level I'm looking for. Though it certainly wouldn't hurt to have, say, Miyazaki levels.
- Good fight scenes. Given the genre, a battle is going to happen at some point. That being the case, might as well make them enjoyable. Especially story-arc ending fights. Also, they don't always have to involve monsters. A well-done shoot-out or whatever among the human characters is just as appreciated.
- Enjoyable , believable villains. Whether monster or human, the big villain needs to come off as a genuine threat. I want to be afraid of the bad guy. When they appear on screen, I want to be able to say/think "Oh shit! The big bad's arrived!" I'll cite Skullmaster from Mighty Max as a good example of such a villain. Minor villains and underlings should also be fun to watch. Like the Zako soldiers from SD Gundam Force, or that group from Power Rangers (The one Goldar was most often seen with), all while still presenting a decent threat to the good guys.

What I don't want to see:
- Ludicrous amounts of blood. Not only could that damage the age-appropriateness of the show, it can also ruin the seriousness of important fights. For example, if Godzilla bites into an opponent, blood should not explode from the wound like a geyser of kool-aid. Also, no graphic dismemberments, disembowelings, beheadings, etc. It's Godzilla, not Cannibal Holocaust.
- Ridiculous fanservice. Cute/sexy female characters are more than welcome, but this is a Godzilla cartoon we're talking about. Not Highschool of the Dead, or Ikki Tousen.
- Unnecessary amounts of cursing. This is less because it gets annoying, (which it does(12 year-old X-box live players, anyone?)) and more because I find the precision F-strike to be more effective than the cluster f-bomb. (Thanks TVTropes!)

There are more things for both lists, but as far as basics go, I think I've covered them here.

I proposed that if Alan Moore ever wrote a Godzilla comic, Goji himself would be Hell-bent to the point of self-mutilation on killing Ghidorah for raping Mothra, with some sub-plot about how Rodan got a sex-change and was a lesbian with Titanosaurus, or some other insanity. Spacegodzilla would go on some weird acid trip too.

But I agree that Goji can't have too much blood, gore, sex, and other non-disney affliates. It would just be a reminder of The Smog Monster could've been...
Before it can be filmed, drawn, acted or programed, it must be written.

Alan Moore's current body of work is considerably less obnoxiously gritty. Something along the lines of his series Tom Strong would be nothing short of pitch perfection for Godzilla.
