In which I watch Godzilla Power Hour

Postby DaveTheAnalyzer » Sun May 06, 2012 1:59 pm

Ever since I discovered the first 13 episodes of Godzilla Power Hour were legally available on Hulu, I decided on a whim to take a watch of one episode. I might do others along the way, and you could provide your thoughts about the first Godzilla cartoon here.

- Well, I see Hanna-Barbara had its limited production values as always.

- For some reason, I’m sure volcanoes don’t like that.

- How did they miss the Fire Bird who came out screeching briefly?

- Godzooky acts like a incorrigible toddler. As a relative is staying over with a hyperactive two year old who gets into everything, the Calico crew has got my sympathies.

- Should waves be that high if they’re in the middle of the ocean?

- I don’t know whether Godzilla was blowing his nephew away in annoyance or he was playing with him.

- Those two scientists should have been burned by the lava being so close.

- I think I like science-y Dr. Darien already.

- Pete can understand how Godzooky thinks? He must read his body language like an owner to his dog. Not very clear through the crappy animation. Still, interesting…

- …WHY IS A 12 YEAR OLD PILOTING A HELICOPTOR?!

- Shouldn’t all the human be dead going so far deep into the volcano.

- Ah, Godzooky. Your ignorance and loyalty is going to put your life in jeopardy often, isn’t it?

- Wait, how did Pete and Godzooky suddenly show up on the other side of that pit, and why did the group didn’t notice them?

- …but Godzooky had no trouble flying before.

- I can already tell Godzilla was an animator’s nightmare.

- Ah, the laser eyes. Done because the fire breath was harder to animate. Wouldn’t it have been simpler to just animate Godzilla’s blue ray?

- For some reason, I’m amused the human cast at this point just stands there, and shouts encouragement at Godzilla.

- Funny, I thought Godzilla falling from such a great height would cause a crater, not a crack.

- I see Dr. Darien, FIRE BIRD IS THE SOURCE OF GLOBAL WARMING!

- And they determine Fire Bird is a woman and wishes to lay eggs how?

- Godzooky, please wait until your older to be of assistance.

- Eek, Godzilla had a creepy grin when he carried his nephew to safety.

- Apparently, the Fire Bird can breathe underwater…okay!

- And through the indirect help of Godzooky, the Fire Bird is stuffed into a cave…okay!

- I wonder how Pete’s parents reacted to him being basically the guardian of a giant flying lizard.

- Wait, wouldn’t Godzooky being dragged in that dingy-thing cause the Calico to slow down?

- Well, that wasn’t high quality art, but entertaining nevertheless.

I actually like this show quite a bit. I really wish Classic Media had licensed the entire series and released it in two season sets. We may never see any of the second season episodes on high quality legit DVD. :(

It's on netflix if anyone wants to see it. I think they have every episode but can't be sure.
You know, Darth Vader cannot be Luke Skywalker's father. They don't have the same last name.

It's a fun show. They showed some interesting monster foes for Godzilla, though some were rather bland.

Dave, just wait till you get to the Attack of the Stone Creature episode.

No unfortunately only the first 13, the same that CM licensed for DVD.
There has never been a "Scientifically Accurate" Dinosaur portrayed on any Television Show, Movie, or Documentary. Only what the human imagination can conceive, and I'm ok with that.

I own all 3 DVDs. I love it. Good old cheesy Godzilla.

I REALLY don't get the laser eyes though... he hardly used it anyway.
Don't try to be something else. Don't try to be less. Great things are going to happen in your life. Great things. And with that will come great responsibility.

If Godzilla needs one thing in the new movie it's laser eyes.

I have a love/hate relationship with this cartoon. it's ok in spots, but other times, it leaves you a bit aghast at the random stupidity, like the Time Dragon episode where Captain Majors says a Diplodocus wasn't a picky eater (meaning it was a carnivore/omnivore), when most children who watch this TV show know better.

I've only ever seen 10-20 episodes of the show. I loved it as a kid; I should probably check it out again to see how it holds up now.

I loved this show. It rarely had showings on Cartoon Network, but when it was on, I was glued to the television.

The show really wasn't too bad if you like the Hanna-barbara style shows.
A group of crime fighting/mystery solvers that always joined up with some animal with a annoying personality.
The show would be 10 times better if Godzilla used his normal roar.
Sit back and relax.
