The possible future of Godzilla films

Postby gatorzilla » Sun Apr 29, 2012 7:36 pm

This is a great article talking about fanfiction and films
All of us talk how we want this or that in a Godzilla movie or one done this way or that
The only way to do movies like that is for us to get in the industry ourselves
I think Marvel has been a prime example on how to do it with the way theyve done their movies
Hopefully Legendary does the same with Godzilla

Motion capture WOULD give the monsters more life if they are not going to be rubber suits. ''King Kong'' and ''Rise of the Planet of the Apes'' did it quite well. Andy Serkis as Godzilla!

A lot of fans say Godzilla should always be a guy in a suit but I think the very idea of a human driven performance it what's really important. I was hoping Pacific Rim would utilize motion capture with the giant robots but it's not. :(

Godzilla is one of my most favorite movies. I have seen all parts of it and it would be fantastic if the future sequels comes with motion capture.

I think motion capture would be a good idea for Godzilla. It would be the best of both worlds.

The question I have about a new Godzilla is do we want him walking upright like he has in the past or more like the T-Rex in the Jurassic Park movies?

Godzilla MUST remain upright.

I am not sure. I am open to him being more dinosaur like. If the design is good it could work.

The middle stance between horizontal and vertical is also possible.

A middle ground would be alright. Fully or mostly horizontal is a bad idea.
Godzilla needs to retain at least SOME of his "retro-dino" stance.

Sort of, yes.

The middle stance allows the standing upright, walking up right, hell, even tail dragging if you wish. But when it comes to running and the like, he takes a horizontal stance.

They did that a bit in GFW.

That would be a good compromise. Somewhere in between the two extremes of being totally upright and horizontal.

That problem is solved, what's next?

The G2K posture is just about perfect in my opinion. I don't want a true theropod orientation, because the upright stance brings with it connotations of intelligence, and serves to further differentiate Godzilla from an ordinary animal.

^Those designs are still considered upright, even if they've got a hunch going on. I think Rody meant that Godzilla should never be horizontal like GINO.

The hell? How are the GxMG and SOS suits anything but upright?

Even the G2K and GxM suits - like tymon said - are still upright, just hunched a bit.

GINO was too horzontal. Something between GINO and the normal stance of the typical suit would be good.

Just to emphasize....

Godzilla was not based off of this:

Godzilla was based off of THIS:

If you "modernize" Godzilla too much, you take away an essential piece of his iconic character.

This is a good example of the middle ground. You don't want him with his spine parallel to the ground, but having him stand like a marine at attention isn't going to fly with the general public.

But why not? Godzilla is a monster. He's a character. He's far more than just a big animal, and has spent the majority of his career with an upright stance. Some of the designs that most people claim to be the best (1954, 64, 89) stand this way. I honestly don't think the general public is going to give a shit how Godzilla stands as long as it basically looks like Godzilla and has his spirit.
