If you could change ANY ONE thing about the Godzilla Films

For discussions covering more than one Toho film or show that span across more than one “era.”

^Ok, I get it. And I dont mean to sound like I'm arguing.

I actually wouldn't mind if they kept going on and on no matter what (who wouldn't? ). Just as long as it has monsters trashin shit.

And to clarify, when I say I've seen some horrible reasons, the prime one I've seen is that the movie is "simply not enjoyable". I just dont get it, but I'll stop there.

And I am all for an open minded forum, maybe my writing wasn't appropriate.

@Sydney I too would love to see how long it takes until people "get over it" (no offense to anyone).

Anyway, lets get back on topic. I admit defeat. X_X

I wouldn't. If they keep making shit films like GFW, then I'm glad they stopped. I'd much rather have no more Godzilla films, instead of another GFW-like film coming out nearly every year.

You are not arguing. I just mean that there is a difference between and argument and a debate that some people don't get.

I actually wouldn't mind if they kept going on and on no matter what (who wouldn't? ). Just as long as it has monsters trashin shit.

Well, let us assume a series going on for infinity did not have that. Maybe this hypothetical Godzilla movie would have the bare-minimum requirement for it to be considered a monster movie (maybe just like one short scene of Godzilla) and a plot that has nothing to do with him. Would you want that?

And to clarify, when I say I've seen some horrible reasons, the prime one I've seen is that the movie is "simply not enjoyable". I just dont get it, but I'll stop there.

I agree. People should be more clear for the reasons not to like a movie. Simply saying "I didn't like it" or "I liked it" doesn't really provide a lot of room for discussion. Or at least not as much as giving a reason for why you did or did not like it.

^Ok, your example of future movies seems a bit extreme. I doubt any director would do that, hell, even FW did more than that.

I guess the two films I'd change would be Godzilla 2000 and GMK.

Personally I would have loved to have seen an animated feature of the manga version rather than the film we got.

As for GMK, I would have had Godzilla as an anti-hero and have the Yamato kaiju as the villains, essentially angry gods rampaging across a modern, disrespectful Japan. I may have also replaced Mothra with Varan.

I guess I would have liked seeing a Kaneko Godzilla trilogy over the entire Millennium series over all.

Well, the only point I am trying to make that there is no point for feeling lucky for something you don't like. Even if it is part of your favorite movie series.

Very much so. If I could change something, I would never have even watched FW in the first place

I'd give the late Showa series bigger budgets and slightly more mature tone. They'd be (more) damn awesome that way.

YES. Also, imagine what Higuchi could have done with GFW's budget O.O

Throw in this design and it's all good:

Most of the late Showa films already have a mature tone, especially Godzilla vs. Hedorah, Godzilla vs. MechaGodzilla and Terror Of MechaGodzilla. Hell, I'd even go as far to say Godzilla vs. Gigan's tone is fairly mature at times. The only one which really doesn't have a mature tone is Godzilla vs. Megalon, but it doesn't need a mature tone.

Recently i bought Godzilla vs Mothra original & Monster Zero, and WOW! They were incredible. I see why GXG likes the showa era more.

Now what i would change?
1. Making sure the showa era has good continuity
2. Keeping the serious tone of these movies GvsM, MZ
3. Making sure Godzilla has nice consistent suite design
4. Bigger budget
5.All of the above for the other 2 eras

No no no I'd rather keep the showa continuity as it is. Sure the Showa films would feel more like a proper series (like the Heisei films) but I like the loosely connected feel of the Showa films

I agree. For the most part, I like being able to sit down and watch any film without having to pay attention to trivial past details.

Don'tcha at least think it'd be weird to see a more ferocious Godzilla design play superhero or act all fatherly to Minya? One of the things I like about the changing suits is that each one fits the mood of the certain film they appear in. There's suits that are a lot more ferocious for the movies where Godzilla is a straight up bad guy/antihero and there's ones that aren't as threatening for the movies where he's more of a good guy. I think it'd be really jarring to see a Godzilla that looks a lot more villainous be the protecter of Earth and teaching Minya how to breathe fire.

Also, I think the loose continuity of the Showa series is one of it's best strengths. Anyone could pop in any of the films in the franchise and not have to worry if they missed any major plot points in the last film.

The Showa series does not need a continuous continuity. It would be distracting and entirely pointless.

Really? What's pointless about it???

One of the reasons why the showa era was failing was, because of the continuity errors.
