Neil Blompkamp

Has a grasp and respect for solid science-fiction, balances drama and subtle character based humor, is able to make something poignant and meaningful without resorting to superficial dark-n-grittiness, works well under a tight budget, and has an eye for good action scenes.

What more could you ask for?

Steven Spielberg is probably an obvious choice; he at least does have an apparent interest in the franchise.
I would also like to see Peter Jackson's take on Godzilla; although I heard somewhere he dislikes Godzilla.

I'd like to say Tim Burton, but I haven't really liked/cared about a TB movie since Big Fish. Dude has lost his way creatively or something.

I think James Cameron could make a kick-ass Godzilla movie.

I love the suggestion of John Carpenter. I know he's a little bit of a fan too, and I love the shit out of some JC flicks, especially The Thing. And we know he's not just a horror dude: Escape from New York is a legit classic, and They Live and Big Trouble in Little China are super-fun cult classics.

I'm a big Paul Verhoeven fan (what can I say, I love 80s movies!) but I don't think Godzilla would be his cup of tea. He's big on gore, satire and super dark comedy, which I don't think would be a good fit for the big G.

I think Neil Blomkamp would be a great choice, but that's only going off District 9.

In a vein similar-ish to Blomkamp, I'd like to see Alfonso Cuarón's take on Godzilla. I still think his is easily the best entry in the Harry Potter series, and Children of Men was just amazing.

No thanks on Peter Jackson... I'd rather see Guillermo del Toro! There is a guy who loves and understands monsters. I think he'd be in my top choices for sure.

The Showa series had 10 good movies, 2 "okay", and 3 bad.
In the timespan of about 30 years, only 6 good films, 2 "okay", and 6 bad.
So yeah, Toho doesn't know what they're doing.

Seriously, no matter what property we're talking about, I want one of these guys directing it.
I don't want the image of Dirty Harry directing a Godzilla film going in my head.......please

Look I do want a good American Godzilla movie but I'd like an American Godzilla film be directed by someone who at least understand who & what Godzilla is and what he stands for. I respect Ol Dirty Harry's work as a director okay but not quite sure if he would understand what Godzilla is or not

No offense

Steven Speilburg makes a remake of the original Gojira. Just think about that for a second. Also, Me! I hope to become a Movie Directior soon, and, just might be praying for Legendary to somehow find out about me in case of a reboot.
