Gotta love how they immediately jump to the conclusion that it's a monster from space when up to that point there hadn't been any space monsters. Sure they were right but for all they knew it could have been a rare natural phenomenon. Just when we think we have the universe all figured out something else new pops up as a new mystery for us to solve.

It actually would have been a funny twist or should I say untwist if they guessed it was a monster and they were wrong, it's just something new they never knew about. Hell they kinda did that in DAM, the so called "Fire Dragon" wasn't a fiery monster but just a ship.
