Well Orga is the only 100% original kaiju in the Millennium series so I'll have to go with him.

With the exception of the name Meganulon, Megaguirus is original.

Zilla '98 is a better giant monster movie then Godzilla vs. Spacegodzilla...even if it's for the wrong reasons.

Zilla '98 is at least interesting in terms of how dumb it is (the U.S. Army having a VERY hard time trying to hit Zilla) and how overall bad/iconoclastic it is.

Godzilla vs. Spacegodzilla is just outright boring bad. I've dozed off every time I've seen it and the last time I saw it (5-6 years ago at least), I nodded off 3 times.

I kind of Disagree with you. I like Godzilla vs Spacegodzilla it's my fav Godzilla movie of all time. But it's not as bad as Godzilla's Revenge. That's for sure. But we have are opinions

You think that's something?

I haven't watched a single Show Gamera movie, and Gamera The Brave neither :v

I know, right? There's like a whole page dedicated to it! I sure am glad I stumbled into the Godzilla vs Kong thread out of idle curiosity, I was beginning to think I'd never find a place to talk about A Quiet Place. Maybe they should just cancel GvK altogether so we can all go see A Quiet Place 2 and discuss that here come March 2020?

GTB is worth your time. One of the best films in the series, if not THE best.

Agreed. GTB is one of the best kaiju films out there and just as good as the heisei trilogy

GTB definitely has an enjoyable, feel-good quality to it that's pretty rare in kaiju films.

Here's a confession: I haven't watched one half of the Gamera franchise, even though I own that whole half of the Gamera franchise.

The DVDs are just sitting there in a box collecting dust.

Concerning the Showa Gamera movies, I think if you're a fan of specifically the Godzilla movies you should at least check out the first three.

If you can look past the kid-oriented storytelling in the later Showa entries, and if you can forgive the awful (but funny) special effects, then I say check out the whole lot. (Super Monster is just an awful movie though, probably only for completists.)

The thing is, Toho was so good at producing quality SFX work during the Tsuburaya days and no other Japanese studio was able to successfully mimic it. Part of this is because the other studios didn't have devoted special effects departments like Toho did. Other factors may have been time, money, resources, etc. But as bad as some of the FX work in the Gamera movies is, it's almost always entertaining. The quality is a lot like the TV productions of the time, except that this was unfortunately intended for the big screen.

I like the Gameras because I saw most of them as a kid. I know very well that doesn't make them good movies, nor do I pretend it does. A lot of my enjoyment of them now comes from watching them with knowledge and appreciation of Daiei beyond its genre output. The Japanese studio system in the '50s and '60s is as fascinating to me as the Hollywood system.

Regarding Gamera: The Brave, I agree that it's a good movie, but I don't think it's nearly as cinematic as the Kaneko trilogy so I don't like it as much as those films. I appreciate the change of pace and I think it's an excellent template for future Gamera movies, but I did think this story was a little too sappy and not as authentic as the filmmakers probably hoped.

I've never seen GTB. I did see a clip on youtube, but I haven't seen the whole movie.

As for the Showa Gamera flicks, they are a mixed bag, but can be entertaining. The second, third, and sixth are the ones I like best. G vs Barugon has a Godzilla like feel to it, and G vs Gyaos has the best balance of the serious and kid oriented themes. G vs Jiger is just fun, and I like Jiger.
Kaiju are just like people- giant, radioactive people.

Megalon went into a bar and saw Gigan. Megalon said, " Again? I thought you gave this up."
" What can I say," Gigan asked. " I'm hooked."
