I don't think I'd go so far to say that what I wrote was plain truth as PBP said; I believe there is some degree of subjectivity when it comes to film, even if I do think Skull Island is pretty overrated. A lot of my vitriol towards the film isn't even directed at the film itself, nor its fans – but rather out of fear of the future direction of the Monsterverse. I loved LPG's approach, and although I'm certain a theoretical Gareth Edwards sequel would have delivered both more screen time and action, I'm concerned that the terrific, awe inspiring presence of the monsters will be lost in KotM. The first trailer (I'm avoiding the second one to keep things fresh) seems to hint it might go in that direction, but I can't help but remember how amazing Kong's first trailer was.

I guess I feel that Kong was in a way an over-correction in response to the criticisms that plagued LPG, and in a way that only made the movie lesser. And that it seems things will be continuing that way in the future is what really lends my anger towards the film.

If that makes any sense.
It makes perfect sense to me...& K:SI could be viewed as a "course correction"
for the entire MonsterVerse...especially after a lot of people found Gareth's
approach slow, boring or in most cases a series of upsetting teases.

I personally really enjoyed both G14 (is that right?) & K:SI...even if they felt
very much like the direct opposites to me.

I'm happy for kaiju films to take a slower approach because for me...the "build"
to a fight can be just as entertaining as the fight itself.

But I'm also happy for kaiju films to "throw everything at the wall" & be completely
over the top with crazy action & set pieces...because sometimes its cool to see the
film version of what you did with your action figures as a kid.

Hopefully KotM falls somewhere in the middle ground between the two films set
before it...but then...I'm just hoping it isn't a complete mess like The Last Jedi
& The Predator.

Too many franchises are being ruined by awful scripts these days.

As a wise man once said...Technology will age, effects will age, films will age...but
good writing is timeless.

I mean, I'm fine with that too. Hell, my favorite kaiju movie of the 2010's was Pacific Rim.

I just don't think Kong pulled that off very well.

Well...everyone of us watches these films through our own perspectives...
& if a film doesn't work for you...it can't really be helped.

I mean look at me...I don't get Monster Zero at all...yet a lot of the fan base does.

I'm personally pretty understanding of those who "don't get" certain films...even
films I personally love.

I do hope you (& EVERYONE here) enjoys KotM though.

Godzilla vs. Destroyah is one of the most forgettable Godzilla movies since Spacegodzilla, and Godzilla’s death is handled so poorly, it completely sucks all the emotion away.

This “snail pace, god Godzilla” Toho’s been doing since Shin is starting to get old.

The 2005 Kong and Skull Island is far superior than the MonsterVerse versions.

GMK is just about as overrated as vs. Destroyah, and its “different approach” to the character doesn’t impress me none because the whole film looks and feels like a made-for-TV movie, as does the entire Millennium series (with the exception of G2K)

The Kong and Skull Island from the 2005 Peter Jackson motion picture King Kong is far superior to the versions in Kong: Skull Island.

He means the Skull Island seen in the 2005 film was better than the island seen in the 2017 film.

Which I absolutely agree with.

Edit: PBP you ninja.

I have to say, I actually agree with these three points for the most part.
  • I don't hate Destroyah, but it is far from a great movie and, completely agree that Godzilla's death is totally is wasted with the small caveat of Junior's resurrection.
  • I love Shin (one of my top favorite in the franchise, in fact), and it approach worked perfectly for that film; but the take has worn out its welcome quickly. It doesn't help that the anime trilogy just took an already difficult take and emphasized all the wrong parts of it.
  • I never got the appeal of GMK. It's a perfectly okay Godzilla film for me. I like the idea of a truly evil Godzilla, but it just doesn't work for me. And I just can't like a heroic Ghidorah, that I hate. I wouldn't go so far as to say that either the look nor the feel is made-for-TV quality, but it just is so very okay that nothing stands out in my mind.

GMK had the distinct problem of not being written by Kazunori Ito.

I still think GMK is one of the best of the Millennium films, and is one of the better Godzilla films over all. But it does fall short, and could have been a true classic if Toho didn't force the change in the guardian monsters and would of given 2 year production time to do it correctly.

I think GMK is one of the best Godzilla films personally – Top 5 quality, really – but I think that's a fairly unpopular view in itself.

I agree, but also I think the story they had was fine. The script, however, definitely needed work; all the build up in the first half only amounts to just another Godzilla vs. other monsters movie. GMK as released is my pick for the most overrated Godzilla movie. It's good but it's not one of the top ten films in the franchise. It could have been. And "best Millennium film" isn't much of an accolade considering four of the other five in that series are mediocre at best.

*Thinks*

I personally feel the 2005 Skull Island had a "grander scale" to it...
but the 2017 Skull Island was more unique & crazy...so I actually
prefer the 2017 Skull Island myself.

Seriously, I don't get this one. Yes, is an unorthodox approach. Yes, It wasn't supposed to be Ghidorah. Yes, It may be a letdown

But WHY do people speak of it with so much hate?
And it's not even about if Ghidorah was awful at the movie, it's only "hurr durr I don't like good guy Ghidorah"
Why, just WHY?

(And I swear to God, if someone brings Up the Joker analogy...I will do nothing, but I will still hate It :) )
