What about an alternate WW2 timeline Godzilla movie?

For discussions covering more than one Toho film or show that span across more than one “era.”

What about an alternate WW2 timeline Godzilla movie?

Post by Jeff-Goldblum1 »

Where Godzilla is created from scientific testing by the Japanese in WW2, then they use Godzilla as a weapon against the American army to repel them from the Pacific front.

Godzilla can stop Hiroshima from being destroyed by intercepting the atomic bomb.

Sort of like a reverse Godzilla, instead of symbolizing the atomic bomb he can be the stalwart symbol against it.

That would be interesting, but I wonder if it would address the realistic implications of a Japanese victory, and not just the atomic theme - Godzilla's presence allowing the Japanese Empire to subject the Chinese and other Asians peoples to colonial rule, for example.

It`s going to be great and all for the Japanese until Godzilla attacks them, because that`s what happens when humanity plays god.

As a story about hubris- the Japanese create this to win the war (almost their own version of the A-bomb; an equally-destructive force in a different form) that then turns against them and wreaks worse destruction than what it was designed to prevent, as a metaphor for the dangers/follies of nuclear arms escalation and the like, could work thematically...

Destroyer kind of fills this role already. They used the Oxygen Destroyer to kill the first Godzilla and it comes back to bite them in the ass 40 years later. Japan's infamous Unit 731 was amassing chemical and biological weapons during WW2. The Oxygen Destroyer was treated like a weapon of mass destruction in the first Godzilla film, it's the chemical weapon equivalent to the Atom bomb or Hydrogen Bomb.

Just as Godzilla represents the misuse of atomic weapons, Destroyer is chemical weapons. Both creatures birthed from power that is or can be used as WMD.

I agree here. It tells just as powerful a story as we got from Gojira.
