Maybe I'm just an unromantic slob, but I have never been overly enthusiastic about shipping or people getting together or whatever.

Its just never appealed to me and when its featured in something I enjoy, its typically the part I am least interested in.

There are a few exceptions, Han and Leia being one, but most of the time, I just don't care. There are also cases where giving into a ship can flat out ruin something because it becomes more about the couple than whatever it was that drew me to that thing in the first place (Arrow, I'm looking at you).

One of the things I've liked about the Godzilla series is that whole thing never really crept into a huge degree. There are couples and romances, but it never seemed to get to that ridiculous Twilight level of "I'm on team so and so, so I hope she ends up with him".

I guess I don't care about the drama of "who winds up with who?". It doesn't appeal to me and I'm typically more concerned with the main conflict of the story and if "who winds up with who?" is the main conflict, then I'm probably not going to care.

And all of that said, I think Ogata/Emiko/Serasawa might be my favorite love triangle of all time. Why? Because the drama isn't centered on who Emiko ends up with. We know who she's going to end up with. They tell us very early that she's chosen Ogata and wants to break off the arranged marriage. What makes it work though is how their situation is woven into the situation with Godzilla. Emiko finds herself in a situation where she has to betray Serasawa's twice, and Serasawa and Ogata get swept up in all the moral questions that come up. Heck, we even get Serasawa and Ogata fighting each other which is doubly layered. Yes, they are fighting over the Oxygen Destroyer, but the situation with Emiko makes it a bit more personal as well (and part of me likes to think that a small part of Serasawa enjoyed hurting Ogata, just a little bit, lol).
