Good first five entries, despite GMK's high ranking. Destroy All Monsters and Destroyah making it that high is a travesty. Guess a lot of people like fast-forwarding to monster fights. Son of Godzilla is also shockingly low. This is all a matter of opinion, but in this case my opinion is correct.

Shin and '14 are both such divisive films, and so recent, I'm not shocked to see them sitting next to each other in the middle. I suspect vs. Hedorah was another that found itself in both a lot of very high and very low rankings.

Looking at my list from a few months ago, I'd put '14 sooo much lower now that I've revisited it. Might bump GMK down as well. I think I always want to give it more credit than I can when I actually sit down to watch it.

Godzilla 2000 ranks so high primarily due to nostalgia, but I also think it's just the perfect "standalone" film. Sure the supplementary books state that G54 is canon, but it's never mentioned in the film itself outside of "Godzilla has shown up before". It's tone and style (something about them say "anime" to me) is unique to the series and hasn't been replicated since. This is my favorite film from Takao Okawara and it's kind of a shame that it ended up being his last film. I would've loved to see more movies in this universe.

I agree wholeheartedly on DAM and Destoroyah. While I personally like Destoroyah a lot, DAM is such an overrated film. The only saving grace it has are the effects scenes (which are fantastic, don't get me wrong) but the rest is bogged down by a dull plot and very uninteresting characters.

I cannot stand Hedorah. It's disjointed, dopey, boring (this may be a shock, but i think it takes too long to get going), and just a huge chore to sit through. Of all the 70's films, it's my least favorite. I'd rather watch Megalon or Gigan over it.

Also agree on GMK. I've started to become less than enthralled with it; it's barely under my top 15, where a few months ago it was actually in my top 10.

Godzilla 2014's position is largely due to the hype surrounding the film. It was probably the best experience I had in a theater, one that will probably only be surpassed come 2019 and 2020. There will probably never be a greater time to be a modern-day Godzilla fan then sitting through the development cycle from 2012 to 2014 watching as a brand new American Godzilla film was created before our eyes. And as a Godzilla fan, the 2014 film righted the wrongs of the 1998 film, another reason I rank it so high. Before this film, most of us hated the American perception of Godzilla which began with "Matthew" and ended with "Broderick film". Your mileage may vary on what the perception is now, but at least Godzilla isn't as much of a mockery anymore.
