Ah, that'd probably work pretty well then. The one flaw I can see is that there is never any question of Anguirus' return in RoG, but that could be waived easily.

My head canon of the showa films. Hold on to your butts.
194X- Frankenstein's heart is secured by Nazi forces.
1945- Hiroshima bomb detontation
1954-The events of Gojira take place, nothing too much here other than the first appearance of Godzilla and is killed by the oxygen destroyer.
1955-The events of Godzilla Raids Again take place, this Godzilla is the sibling of the original Godzilla who appeared just a year before, also marking the first appearance of another pre-historic creature, Anguirus who Godzilla supposedly kills at the end of the film then Godzilla is trapped in an iceberg.
1956-The events of Rodan take place, marking the appearance of two of the same species of monsters at once and the appearance of smaller creatures called the Meganulon who the Rodan feed on but both are killed at the end of the film, but had left one egg behind.
1957-The events of The Mysterians take place, marking the first time aliens have made contact with humans in this time period.
1958-The events of Varan take place, marking the first appearance of Varan and is killed at the end of the film, but leaving a single offspring behind in the Tibet wilderness
1959- The events of The Three Treasures take place. Nothing is too significant other than it marks the only appearance of the dragon Orochi.
1960- A deformed boy is found wandering the streets eating many stray animals.
1961-The events of Mothra take place, marking the first appearance of Mothra in its larva and imago form. Also marks the appearance of the Shobijin. Once Mothra recovers the Shobijin, she flies back to Infant Island.
1962-The events of King Kong vs Godzilla take place, marking the first appearances of Kong, the Giant Octopus and Faro Island Kong fights and defeats the Giant Octopus. The same Godzilla from Godzilla Raids Again is freed from his tomb and fights Kong on the slopes of Mt. Fuji with the brawl ending in Kong returning out to sea with Godzilla nowhere to be found.
1963-The events of Atragon take place, marking the first appearance of Manda, along with the Mu Kingdom. Manda is defeated but not killed by the Gotengo.
1964-The events of Mothra vs Godzilla take place. The Shobijin appear once again to try to save Mothra's egg but are captured and Mothra awakens once more and goes to their rescue. Godzilla has recovered from his fight with King Kong and appears on Japanese soil and goes after Mothra's egg, does battle with the elder Mothra, effectively incapacitating her. The elder dies and the egg hatches. Godzilla battles the two babies and is defeated and lost at sea once more.
1964-The events of Dogora take place, this marks the ONLY appearance of the Dogora creature and goes virtually unknown to the rest of the world.
1964-The events of Ghidorah the Three Headed Monster take place. Marks the first appearance of King Ghidorah. Another alien race appears, but not to the public as they mind control Princess Mas Selina Salno to persuade the people of Earth that they are in danger. Sure enough monsters start to appear. The offspring of the original two Rodan who appeared in 1956 has hatched and has been growing for many years until it reappears and starts to wreck havok across Japan. Godzilla also reappears, destroying a passenger ship. The two eventually meet and begin to fight until the last offspring of Mothra (the other one died) comes and tries to tell them to help her fight a new monster, King Ghidorah. Reluctant at first, the two eventually agree to fight Ghidorah and send him back into space.
1965-The events of Monster Zero take place. Marks the first appearance of the alien race known as the Xiliens. A new planet is discovered behind Jupiter (Planet X). The Xiliens are discovered there and are seemingly terrorized by King Ghidorah. They request the Earth people send Godzilla and Rodan to help fight Ghidorah off. The Xiliens were in control of Ghidorah the whole time and are now in control of all three monsters as they lay waste to the world. The mind control is severed and Godzilla and Rodan defeat King Ghidorah once more.
1965-The events of Frankenstein Conquers The World take place. Marks the first and only appearance of Frankenstein and marks the first appearance of Baragon. The Giant Octopus also returns. The boy from 1960 has grown the size of four people and inadvertently causes collateral damage to the country side. Frankenstein sets a trap for the defense forces, giving him enough time to escape. Baragon is destroying a nearby village and Frankenstein goes in to fight him off. The ensuing battle occurs and Baragon's corpse is tossed off a cliff. The Giant Octopus arrives and the two fight, with Frankenstein being dragged into the ocean never to be heard from again.
1966- The events of Ebirah, Horror of the Deep take place. Marking the first appearance of Ebirah and the only appearance of the Giant Condor, a terrorist group known as the Red Bamboo have taken the natives from Infant Island as a labor force to an unknown island in the South Pacific. A few gentlemen steal a boat from Japan and are ship-wrecked thanks to Ebirah. The survivors find Godzilla sleeping on the island and wake him up to do battle with the Giant Condor and Ebirah. Mothra appears in her imago form and takes her people back to Infant Island, but not before having a short scuffle with Godzilla. Not killing him because Mothra remembers when Godzilla helped her fight off King Ghidorah a few years back. The Red Bamboo base explodes and Godzilla swims away safely.
1966-The events of The War of the Gargantuas take place. Marking the first and only appearances of Gaira and Sanda, with the Giant Octopus briefly returning. The two creatures Sanda and Gaira are spawned from some of the detached limbs of Frankenstein. Gaira feeds on local fishing boats and people while Sanda wishes just for peace. Gaira briefly encounters and fights the Giant Octopus, defeating it. Sanda and Gaira fight it out in Tokyo. The two crash into the waves and cause an underwater volcanic explosion, killing them both.
1967- The events of Son of Godzilla take place, marking the first appearances of Kamacarus, Kumonga and Minilla. Minilla is hatched from an egg found on Sollgel island. He is immediately attacked by a few Kamacarus until his father Godzilla comes in and fights them off. The two live on the island until Kumonga is awakened by the human's experiments on the island. Godzilla and Minilla defeat Kumonga and are left in the snowy tundra of Sollgel island, KILLING Godzilla.
Just to recap a bit, there was the original Godzilla from 1954, the Godzilla from Godzilla Raids Again from 1955 which was the same Godzilla up until 1967. Minilla has many years to grow into the new Godzilla from now until GvH.
1969- A young boy is on some hard drugs when he is kidnapped by some thugs and gets bullied. These drugs make this child hump cars and imagine he is talking to Minilla and Godzilla. Also Gabara is there too, but he doesn't exist. The child escapes his captors, fights off the bullies and goes home to eat some noodles with his uncle (?).
1970- A strange sci-fi movie involving Griffons and Bat-Men is released, the ratings were horrible and everyone forgot about it.
1970- The events of Space Amoeba take place. Marks the first and only appearances by Gezora, Ganimes, and Kamoebas. Another exploratory trip to Planet X is interrupted by the space ship being attacked by a space amoeba and is sunk in the Hawaiian islands. It possess a few different monsters such as Gezora and Ganimes. Ganimes fought against another monster called Kamoebas. The two fight and land in a volcano, killing both the kaiju and the alien invaders.
1971- The events of Godzilla vs Hedorah take place. Marking the first appearance of Hedorah and the new Godzilla. Minilla, having been growing up, faces a new monster Hedorah who is made out of pollution. Having observed his father's ruthless tactics towards others, Minilla decides to make up for his father's rage against the world. Minilla is also quite creative, using his atomic breath for flight. Minilla kills Hedorah with the help of the humans.
1972- The events of Godzilla vs Gigan take place. Marks the first appearance of Gigan and reappearances of Anguirus and King Ghidorah. Cockroach aliens take control of Gigan and King Ghidorah who lay waste to Japan. Minilla calls upon Anguirus, who had survived the 1955 attack, to help and to make amends for his father. Anguirus joins Minilla and the two fight tag-team style against the two space invaders. The two earth monsters are triumphant, sending both back into outer space.
1973- The events of Godzilla vs Megalon take place. Marks the first and only appearances of Megalon and Jet Jaguar. Nuclear testing displace many monsters from Monster Island such as Minilla, Rodan, and Anguirus. The people of Seatopia are sick and tired of the nuclear testing so they send in Megalon to wipe out humanity along with the help of Gigan. Minilla appears and with the help of a human-made robot, Jet Jaguar, the two defeat Megalon and Gigan. Minilla also demostrates his creativity by using a sort of "tail-slide" attack against Megalon.
197X- A T.V. show airs starring Minilla as the "Monster of Justice". Minilla fights alongside Zone Fighter to help fight off many strange creatures as well as Gigan and King Ghidorah. Now it is only known by a few people who talk about it on a website occasionally.
1974- The events of Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla takes place. Marks the first appearance of King Caesar as well as the first appearance of Mechagodzilla with Anguirus briefly returning. Simien aliens from the third planet from the black hole (or something like that) build a robot version of Godzilla (still Minilla). It emerges first as looking exactly like Minilla, and even breaks Angiurus' jaw, sending the spiked monster back to Siberia (?). Minilla meets the new enemy, exposes it for the mechanical menace that it is, then along with King Caesar, defeats the horrid machine.
1975- The events of Terror of Mechagodzilla take place. Marks the first and only appearance of Titanosaurus, with Mechagodzilla returning. The same aliens as the year before rebuilt Mechagodzilla and along with Titanosaurus and a mad scientist, aim to destroy the Earth and rebuild it to their liking. Minilla shows up however and has many fights with the pair until the humans can distract Titanosaurus long enough with sonic waves for Minilla to take down Mechagodzilla once again and killing Titanosaurus.
1982- The events of Gorath take place. Marking the first and only appearance of Maguma. While a giant meteor heads directly for Earth, the humans attempt to alter the orbit of the planet and in doing so, woke the monster Maguma who destroyed the Arctic base. The humans killed Maguma using a powerful laser.
199X- The events of King Kong Escapes take place. Marks the return of King Kong along with the first and only appearance of Mechani-Kong and the first appearance of Gorosaurus. Inspired by the design of Mechagodzilla, Dr. Hu creates a robotic Kong in order to dig for element X, an element that was created due to the Xilien's invasion back in 1965. The robot fails so Dr. Hu captures the real Kong who has been hiding on Mondo Island since his battle with Godzilla. Kong defeats Gorosaurus and some giant serpant (not Manda). Kong is mind controlled and begins to dig until a young woman name Susan is in trouble and Kong breaks free. He rampages Tokyo and fights Mechani-Kong on top of Tokyo Tower. Mechani-Kong is destroyed and Kong reigns supreme once more.
1998- The events of Godzilla (1998) take place. Marks the first appearance of Zilla and her many offspring. Zilla is killed and only one of her offspring remains alive.
1999- The events of Destroy All Monsters take place. Marks the return of many monsters such as Minilla, Minilla's son (who looks like Minilla from 1967), Anguirus (recovered from his fight with Mechagodzilla), Rodan, Gorosaurus (recovered from his fight with Kong), Baragon (same species different monster), Manda (same one from Atragon), Mothra (a new larva from the one from 1966), Kumonga (same species different monster), Varan (offspring left by the original Varan) and King Ghidorah. All the monsters are living in peace on the island. Any sort of alien invaders decided against invading because of the monsters at the Earth's disposal. That was until the Kilaaks arrived at a time when the monsters were most vulnerable. The Kilaaks took control of the monsters and sent them all against the world, destroyed many major cities. The humans create a new control device and destroy the Kilaaks' control device. As a last resort, the Kilaaks send in King Ghidorah to deal with the Earth's monsters. The Earth's monsters rip Ghidorah a new hole as it is stomped into the ground and killed once and for all. Minilla destroy's the Kilaaks' base and the monsters return to monster island to live out their days in peace.
2004- The events of Godzilla Final Wars takes place. Marks the return of Godzilla (II), Godzilla (II)'s son, Anguirus, Mothra, Rodan, King Caesar, Kamacarus, Hedorah, Kumonga, Ebirah, Zilla Jr., Gigan and Manda. New appearances by Monster X and Keizer Ghidorah. Monster Island has been destroyed thanks to a numerous amount of monsters fighting and causing it to fall apart which resulted in the deaths of many monsters such as Baragon, Varan and Gorosaurus. Minilla has passed on and his son has grown into a new, much more powerful and deadly Godzilla who was traumatized when he saw Minilla destroying everything and killing King Ghidorah back in 1999. Mutant humans have been popping up everywhere along with the formation of many high tech weaponry including the salvaged Gotengo from 1963. Their mission is to hunt down and kill any remaining monsters. The Gotengo freezes Godzilla in its icy tomb just like how his grandfather was back in 1955. Soon after, a newly upgraded Gotengo hunts down Manda and effectively kills it. A mummified monster is discovered and being studied in a secret hangar in Japan. Soon after, many more monsters including Rodan, Kamacarus, Anguirus, King Caesar, Zilla Jr., Kumonga and Ebirah appear and start destroying many major cities. Ebirah is dispatched by a group of mutants but before it can be finished off is whisked away in a blinding flash of light, as are the other monsters. It is soon revealed the descendants of the Xiliens who invaded in 1965 have come to make peace with the people of the Earth. They warn of the same meteor that threatened the Earth in 1982, Gorath, was coming back and the only way to stop it was to concentrate all of their fire power at one point. It is soon revealed the Xiliens were in control of the monsters the whole time. The leader is killed and the Xilien army and the monsters are in control of X. X releases the mummified monster who is revealed to be Gigan and sends in the rest of the monsters to destroy civilization. The Gotengo is sent back into action to reawaken Godzilla. The Gotengo is intercepted by Gigan, and they wake up Godzilla. Godzilla makes short work of Gigan, remembering his father warning him about this one. Gigan was no match. The Gotengo leads Godzilla to where all of the monsters are and proceeds to take them down one by one. Zilla Jr., Kumonga, Kamacarus, Rodan, Anguirus, King Caesar, Ebirah, Hedorah. His father had fought most of these monsters with much trouble and had even befriended a few of them. Godzilla had obliterated them without a second thought. Godzilla made his way to the heart of Tokyo to intercept Gorath. It turns out it wasn't Gorath at all, just a projection of the original meteor. The truth was revealed when Monster X landed. Something about this monster had seemed familiar to Godzilla. Godzilla and Monster X battled in the center of the city, leaving nothing but a wake of destruction. A new upgraded Gigan joined in the fight as Godzilla was quickly overwhelmed. The same Mothra from Monster Island from 1999 had finally reached her Imago form. She sacrificed herself to destroy Gigan and all that was left was Godzilla and Monster X. Until Monster X transformed into Keizer Ghidorah. Godzilla began to flash back to when this terrible monster's parent terrorized his friends. Keizer was too powerful for Godzilla until the humans intervened. Godzilla slammed Keizer into the ground and launched him up. In an act of pure nostalgia, Godzilla charged his atomic ray except this time, it was his red spiral ray. He destroyed Keizer just as he helped destroy King Ghidorah. Godzilla was about to destroy the Gotengo until his son stopped him. The two then went off into the sunset, possibly to never be seen again.

A little headcanon, the reason GMK Godzilla may be so evil is that the WWll spirits only resurrected G54's rageful and hateful side, and leaving his peaceful side to rest in peace with others.

Outside of the 'little details' which can sort of be overlooked, hand-waved, or explained away....is there anything too concrete that keeps Godzilla vs Megaguirus from being a 'more ridiculous' sequel to Godzilla 2000?

Tonally G2K is a bit more realistic than the black hole gun ways of G vs Megaguirus...but unless they overtly refer to Tokyo being the capital of Japan at some point in G2K....I don't think there is anything in G2K that overtly conflicts with or goes against the parameters laid out in the G vs Megaguirus prologue and setting.

I think it's a nuclear reactor that Katigiri has shut down at Godzilla's approach; in the Megaguirus universe, there aren't any in use. Unless I'm mistaken on either of those points? But both had a 'Godzilla attacks power sources' subplot, and the power sources in 2000 aren't compatible with the alternate historyy/world that's a key point of Megaguirus, I think.

G2000 and GXMegs map unto each other smoother than, say, trying to make G2000 a continuation of the Heisei series. It's easier to explain how the mundane CCI organization was replaced by the high-tech G-Graspers than to justify how G-Force, with all of its futuristic weapons, vast resources, and experienced personnel all vanished in little more than three years.

Thinking about that, it's weird how post-Heisei series movies introduce all of these creatively named anti-kaiju organizations, but the Showa series mainly stuck to real life groups like the JSDF and Interpol.

Decided to make my own timeline as if all Godzilla movies and those related to it are connected. Spoiled to avoid taking space.
Spoiler:
13.75 billion years ago: Big Bang occurs, Grand King Ghidorah as well as his species comes into existence shortly after becoming the first living creatures in the universe, throughout those billions of years, Grand King Ghidorah sours the cosmos seeking planets to absorb being above all his kind as the dominant one.
4600-541 million years ago: The crustaceans that will eventually become Destoroyah comes into existence.
358.9-298.9 million years ago: At this time Megaguirus and the Megaulon's appears.
Over 250 million years ago: The first lineage of the Godzilla species starts off with Legendary Godzilla's kind who is born at this point and not much is known throughout his life other then having fought Shinomura as well as M.U.T.O.'s appearing. Then the Permian-Triassic Extinction Event occurs during their fight as the asteroid that causes it interrupts their fight, though Legendary Godzilla defeats Shinomura, a piece of him survives and goes into dormant, while Legendary Godzilla does the same while driving the rest of his species to near extinction and most M.U.T.O.'s.
Over 65 million years ago: Desghidorah is born at some point and comes to earth to drain it of only to be thwarted by an advanced civilized race and giant Moth's before being sealed away but not without sacrifice leaving only four survivors (Moll, Lora, Belvera and Mothra).A dinosaur species called the Godzillasaurus and descendants of Legendary Godzilla's race also appears, a few having survived the Permian-Triassic Extinction Event, among these would be the original 1954 Godzilla, the showa Godzilla, Minilla, as well as two Anguirus' (GRA, GvG, GvM), two Gorosaurus' (KKE and DAM), two Baragon's (FctW and DaM), two Godzillasaurus', three Rodan's (Rodan and Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla Heisei) and Titanosaurus who alongside them survives to the present. Grand King Ghidorah back when he was younger also comes to earth resulting in the dinosaurs extinct, it's also at this time Mothra Leo goes back in time to stop him when he couldn't in the present, though somewhat successful since a piece of Cretaceous Ghidorah's tail survives and regenerates overtime, Mothra Leo is left severely wounded where primitive Mothra larva cocoons Mothra Leo up so he can awaken 65 million years later which he eventually stops him having grown more powerful.
Post 65 million-30,000 years ago: At this time Legendary Godzilla on occasions ventures to the surface throughout the millions of years where our early ancestors eventually spots him thus the cave paintings they leave.
100,000 years ago: Three civilizations arises, the Nilai Kanai, Mu and Lemuria (Which will become Seatopia), each with their own monster (Manda, Dagahra and Megalon). Mu continues to exist to the present having been flourishing underwater, the Nilai Kanai is destroyed by their own creation known as Dagahra who was designed to feed off their pollution and Lemuria sinks beneath the earth taking its remaining survivors and Megalon with them who eventually adapts down there.
12,000 years ago: Having survived in isolation throughout the millions of years the four survivors of what was once the Elias keeps in charge of earth resulting in the Earth to create Battra to fight them since its the Earth's (Who is literally a "Living Being") job to keep things in balance resulting in a fight between Mothra and Battra with Mothra prevailing and sealing Battra away in Siberia deep in the ice.
Over 500 years ago: 1954 Godzilla is spotted by the natives of Odo Island thus creating his legend and sacrifices he's given.
Over 200 years ago: The events of the novel Frankenstein occurs with Dr. Frankenstein creating Frankenstein's Monster. The last seen of Frankenstein's Monster is drifting away into the arctic to never be seen again.
1898: Legendary Godzilla awakens from one of his occasional awakenings and destroys the USS Maine causing the Spanish-American War.
Post 1945: Dr. Riesendorf is in the arctic for research when he makes an discovery of what appears to be an mysterious heart from unknown and the unrecognizable remains of what's Frankenstein's Monster and takes it for research.
1944: Monarch is formed. Marlow also lands on Skull Island.
Pre-1954: Legendary Godzilla awakens when Shinomura does as well and fights ending with Legendary Godzilla prevailing.
1954: Nuclear tests are performed that ends up scarring the 1954 Godzilla hence the events occurs. At the same time Monarch attempts to kill Legendary Godzilla only to fail.
1955: Showa Godzilla appears and fights with the first Anguirus which he kills before being covered by ice trapping him.

Godzilla (1998) exists on a timeline where the 1954 film also exists. The old man in the beginning just mistook the creature for Godzilla, knowing that Godzilla was discovered because he was wrecking ships.

That line of thought is basically confirmed in GMK, where the characters say "Americans think it was godzilla, but japanese scientists doubt it" which makes it known that godzilla existed before.

Here's another sort of tossed out 'Could this sequence of films flow well enough' proposition.

Does anyone think that, in theory, you could go right from watching Godzilla vs Biollante and into Godzilla vs Destoroyah and have enough context within GvD to make sense?

G-Force, Miki, the Super X...all carry over as through-lines from Godzilla vs Biollante. The theme of 'a few years passing between films' would also carry over....ROG was 30 years after the original, Biollante was 5 after that, Destoroyah would be 7 after that.

I think the biggest 'wait, what?' bit would be having context for their being a younger, smaller Godzilla. Obviously IN the film itself the carry over is assumed due to Jr being in the last 2 films.

But if you just watch GvD on its own as a "Sequel" to Biollante, I wonder if, the way the dialogue and situation is presented....if there is enough context provided to 'explain' that there is another Godzilla around. I wonder if it could kinda work. Another Godzilla appearing in itself isn't too ridiculous, it is just a matter of whether or not enough context to provide an 'introduction' is given in the film itself.

The Heisei series starts off grounded and having science/Godzilla based technology and threats(Biollante spawned from Godzilla cells)...but the 91-94 films veer into heavy sci-fi/fantasy like time travel, magic faeries, alien monsters, super-mechs.

But then Godzilla vs Destoroyah brings it back around to 'Humans have nothing crazier than maser tanks and the Super X' and again, Godzilla and his foe are sort of 'rooted' in the earth-bound reality of the films, with Destroyah being a product of the original Oxygen Destroyer.

Also, The 84, 89, and 95 films could be a sort of 'Super X Trilogy' on top of all of that.

It's been a long while since I last watched GvD (or, hell, any of the post '89 Heisei entries, for that matter), but I recall there not being enough context to explain Junior in GvD if you were to remove GvMG. The most surprise delivered in response to him is that he's behaving, and looking, more like his father.

There also isn't enough context to explain how Miki suddenly became a 1 woman PETA for Godzilla, but that little piece of character development was handled terribly to begin with. 8P

You could cut both "Godzilla Vs Mothra" and "Godzilla Vs SpaceGodzilla" from the Heisei viewing, and you don't miss anything from the continuity. You could also cut "Return of Godzilla" since everything you need to know is in the opening of "Godzilla Vs Biollante".

But then you wouldn't get to see Yuuki's butt.
That's kind of important.

It's extremely vital to the story. Not to mention it's the best shot of the entire series.

Even though the film already has subtle hints at it, to me it's canon that the events of Gamera: Super Monster were all a dream (which is one of the only ways of actually making sense of the movie.)

King Ghidorah didn't die at the end of Destroy All Monsters. He only appeared dead due to his entering a comatose state to regenerate his power.

All movies take place in the chronological order in which they were released.

Mothra is immortal. When Mothra dies, she doesn't really die. She is reborn as a larva (sometimes she makes twins for extra power and somehow shares her soul/mind between them). Similar to re-spawning in a video game.

Godzilla didn't die in Godzilla vs. Destoroyah. He was reborn (with Junior) in Junior's body. Their minds and souls either share the same body, or they fused together.

In fact, sometimes I pretend there are only one of most monsters. In this universe, there must always be a Godzilla, Mothra, Anguirus, etc. Any time a required monster is supposedly killed, it actually resets or re-spawns again. This would explain why there is always only one active Godzilla at a time. When Godzilla was "killed" with the Oxygen Destroyer, he somehow regenerated or came back. This would explain the convenience of the second Godzilla appearing only after the first one was killed. It also can explain why there is always only one Mothra egg at any given time and why it only hatches when Mothra is either near death or dead.

How would that work, though? Hiroshima and Nagasaki Bays are way too shallow and busy for a family of 50 metre tall reptiles to stay hidden in. And why would Godzilla only attack 9 years afterwards, and so far away?

Don't get me wrong, though, I love that idea, but I would say that his family was killed in a nuclear test in 1954, possibly even Castle Bravo.

My Headcanon

Goro Maki's Plan

Goro Maki lured Shin Godzilla (which, until then, had stayed with the radioactive waste it fed on in 1954) to Tokyo Bay, perhaps with some radioactive waste of his own. He left a note saying "I did as I wished, now you do the same", before committing suicide by jumping into the bay. He knew that people would want to nuke Godzilla, and he hoped that the radioactive terror from Godzilla and the nuclear bomb would make people reject nuclear energy and weapons completely.

Shin Godzilla's Actions and he Motivation

Shin Godzilla's first form, a long, eel-like creature, fed on the waste, and started bleeding extremely hot blood in order to cool itself, just as the Coast Guard boarded the Glory-maru. All the coast guard later died of radiation poisoning.

Godzilla lay to rest on the aqua tunnel, hitting the tunnel with it's tail out of curiosity. It's blood melted through the aqua-tunnel, falling on a car, which was destroyed, it's occupants severely burned. They too later died of radiation poisoning.

It's hunger sated, Godzilla's curiosity was piqued by the sight of land. Deciding to investigate, it entered the shallows, and evolved legs and vestigial arms to better navigate the shallow water. It proceeded into the Tama river, then making landfall in Kamata. It's new form was somewhat lacking on land, so it evolved to stand upright, roaring in pain as it's body mutated once more. It saw trains and helicopters, and thought that they could be threats. However, the exertion of evolving and moving made it begin to overheat, a problem it had never faced before. As it's blood began to boil in it's veins, it roared in agony again, and retreated to the Pacific.

It lay on the sea floor, and evolved once more, to be able to cool itself on land. It also developed the ability to shoot radiation out of it's mouth, spine, and tail, in case any serious threats appeared. It also increased in size, to scare off any potential threats. It then returned to Japan, and headed back to where it had left off, to found out more about it's new environment.

How I Interpret the Music Who Will Know

As it was attacked over and over again, and lashed out without remorse, discrimination, or restraint, it realised that it had never met another member of it's species that had been mutated like it had been. It realised that if it died in this world, no other creature would understand it, but it understood that it's only hope was to carry on, no matter how hopeless things seemed.

The End

And now for the crazy part...

Not once outside of the final three shots do we see the humanoid form of Godzilla, not even the shots with Godzilla in them that come immediately before them. They aren't even there before Godzilla freezes.

And here's somthing else I found, a quote from this forum:

What I mean is that when Godzilla is frozen, his tail looks like it normally does. But the final scene of the movie suddenly shows us that he has those skeletons reaching for the sky from his tail. In other words, they could of only moved into those positions after Godzilla was frozen. Thus, Godzilla certainly has life in him yet.
My headcanon is that the last three shots have time stopped, and that the form 5s aren't frozen, but fully active.

I used to want a Shin Godzilla 2, but now, I actually want it to be a standalone. Some things are better left ambiguous. Especially as haunting as form 5.

Some slightly crazy headcanon for Shin Godzilla. Bare with me a moment.......

So, in my headcanon, some form of the "G54 species" once lived in Shin Godzilla's timeline, but gradually over millions of years they evolved into whatever species G16's first form was.

Yeah, I can see that working. Hell, hairy Crocodile-like animals evolved into Whales over millions of years, so why shouldn't something similar apply to Shodai Godzilla's species?

Perhaps Shin Godzilla's evolvution in the film is an altered, reversed version of it's original species' evolutionary history (excluding Form 5)?
