The Stan Winston Godzilla Design Thread

Post by g2vd »

Since I didn't see a thread for this I figured I would make one.

I must say I've really gotten into Stan's proposed Godzilla design lately, it just looks great and while it was based on Heisei it does a wonderful job as a modern take on Showa Era design aesthetics.

I really love this design. A great mix of Heisei and realistic reptilian traits... it's really a shame it was never put to use. Though, I do theorize G'14 took some inspiration from this look.

Hell, G'14 is basically the child of this design and 3rd Street's Godzilla.

I like it especially how in some concept art Godzilla would walk like that of a theropod dinosaur like Zilla but an actual dinosaur.

I stand by my statement that it looks Ducky from The Land Before Time on steroids.

I really like this design. Maybe add a little more armor on the sternum/stomach and you'd be set.

It's ok. Face sucks but the rest isn't half bad. Couldn't care less for it.

This is from Jan de Bont's version of what eventually became GINO right? Memory is a little foggy but I like the design. Pity we didn't get to see it in motion.

Actually, his design was the Delgado Godzilla or the Carlos Huante Gryphon. I honestly prefer those much better especially the latter considering his art is amazing [Check out Monstruo, I heavily recommend it] . Far more flexible and designed with high budget CG in mind from ILM, the Delgado Godzilla in concept looks like the Heisei Godzilla 1989, but given a more realistic body that allows for much more movement. Sony decided to dump his 120 million dollar budget and then , after a few changes of director to lower the budget, they went with the Alien 3 Director, which is why I believe they tapped Stan Winston's team to do it via their Digital Domain division.

I honestly prefer Crash McCreery's design over the final maquette because while this has 1984 vibes, the head is really messed up. The McCreery design is very dinosaurian, but is still very much Godzilla in the same way the the Delgado and the 2014 versions get it right.

What would be a good name for this design? The TristarGoji? The BontGoji? The WinstonGoji? The 96Goji? or The GryphoGoji?

Really love this design. Sucks it was never used.
My most wanted fight ever is Discord vs Bobobo-bo bo-bobo.
Godzilla has a regen like Wolverine, a skin like Luke Cage, a hero aura like Captain America, a strength like Hulk, an unstoppability like Juggernaut, an immortality like Deadpool.

There's a 'God' in Godzilla for a reason...

I like it but I don't love it.

It totally has the mid-'90s Hollywood dinosaur craze thing going on, down to its reptilian slit eyes.

Would've been fine as a Godzilla design had its project gone through, but there honestly aren't many takes I wouldn't say that about. I'm pretty flexible with interpretations of the character.

I don't like it. Can't get passed that face. It's not terrible, but it's not a look I can get behind.

I think it's beautiful. I've always loved this design. Honestly I think the face is pretty damn close to the Heisei face but with some extra reptilian features. It's actually almost identical to Delgado's original design just with a more reptilian skin texture.
