Wha...what? O_o This thread confuses me...

As for the actual question: yes, Godzilla - like ALL THINGS - should eventually be in the Public Domain. I'm absolutely opposed to corporate efforts to make copyright de facto infinite and, if I had my way, we'd repeal everything they've done to extend it post-1976. It is a crime against humanity that nothing has been added to the public domain for over 17 years.

OT:...NO Godzilla should NOT be public domain. Think of the bad rip offs. Toho could go out of business too.

There are already bad rip offs, so that wouldn't change anything beyond them being able to use the name. And why would Toho go out of business? Just because Godzilla enters the public domain doesn't mean Toho can't make Godzilla movies anymore, and they still own the masters for all the movies no matter what happens.
