Odo Island used to sacrifice virgins to him, right?

Maybe he felt that the Japanese fishing ships (and later on, military ships) were sacrifices as well and just followed?

Afterall, it's not like he would know the sacrifices were to keep him away lol.

If Godzilla lived in Japan (or that portion of the Eurasian land mass that became Japan) in prehistoric times, he might return there instinctively, and be particularly enraged to find that human beings have overrun it. A monster that hates humanity and has a strong sense of home territory would be especially likely to attack human beings occupying its 'home.'
