Ultraman-Skin or Armor?

For discussions covering more than one Toho film or show that span across more than one “era.”

I have always thought of the Color Timer as a warning for some sort of air supply--kind of like how when scuba diving, if your oxygen tank is nearly empty, you will usually get some sort of warning.

^ Sort of; they live off of solar energy, and Earth's atmosphere screens most of that energy, thus limiting the supply for the Ultra's.

I always just assumed their skin hardened into a sort of metal like armor as a side effect of their people being transformed.

I always kind of figured that their humanoid bodies transcended organics & machines - that they're cyborgs, but you can't tell where the living thing ends & the machine begins, & that they turn into those spheres of light, for deep space travel.

It's skin AND armor!

I always figured it was a fluid metal armor that allowed them to survive harsh battles but maintian full flexibility. A little like a T-1000.

Sounds more advanced than the generic mecha manga equivalents anyway.

^ Yeah, I hate the idea of turning them into true robots or Iron Man-style armor suits. Talk about "generic-ing it up". X_X
