When I was younger I preferred Showa, but these days I'm thinking of aiming toward Millennium. Millennium has two of my all-time favorites, but Showa has a lot of good ones.

I'm 18 and I prefer the Showa series.

It just has the classic movies. I haven't seen enough of the Hesei series to judge it, and the millennium films just can't outweigh movies like Godzilla, Mothra vs. Godzilla, Invasion of the Astro-Monster and Terror of Mechagodzilla.

I got to grow up knowing the entire franchise, in rough chronological order. I began with many of the Showa films, then was introduced to the Heisei films, and I saw the Millennium films not long after they were released.
My favorites have shifted plenty over the years, but today, the Showa films stand up the best.

I'm 22 and I think the Showa era is by far the best. Millennium has some weak storytelling (besides GMK) but boasts some very exciting monster action. Heisei is the weakest IMO.

I still stand by what I've said in the "Favorite Godzilla Era?" thread on how I feel about the Showa Era and why I think it's the best.

Era: Showa
Age: 14

This era has more merits and enjoyable aspects than the other two combined. They weren't afraid to put new ideas to the test back then, so we get a good deal of variety spanned over 15 memorable cinematic installments. Half of the mythos ingrained in pop-culture stems from here, and if you ask some Average Joe, he'll most likely, if not indirectly, mention this one first.

I'm 21 and I voted for the Showa series.

(I'm here to answer a PM, Nick, but I saw this thread and thought it would be worth responding to.)

And you're not drunk enough either.

We need to fix that. Good thing I'm already in New Castle.

49 years young. Grew up with the Showa era, still love it, but my favorite is the Millennium era.

Age: 19
Era: Showa (It has most of the best of the entire series and the one i grew with along with)
Millenium (Great effects and last series to be introduced to but now a days i watch some of it from time to time)
Heisei (Second era introduced but not great in its own right)
Unstoppable Fury , Unthinkable Power , Unbreakable Will.

I was just reflecting the other day on how my tastes in Godzilla movies have changed since I have gotten older. I used to love the Heisei films (even Spacegodzilla) when I was a youngin', but now I have a hard time watching them. The Millennium movies suffer from an identity crisis where it feels like Toho wanted to take their characters in a more serious direction, while still keeping the traditional suitimation and camp. Despite their flaws, they're better than the Heisei movies.

I think the Showa movies take the cake for me. They had the best monsters, and the corniness of the later movies in the era helps keep them from being bland.
Five Favorite Godzilla Films (not counting Gojira):
1. Mothra vs. Godzilla
2. GMK
3. Godzilla vs. Biollante
4. King Kong vs. Godzilla
5. Destroy All Monsters

I've always been a Showa fan, as far as I can remember. My tastes have still changed over time, though. I know I used to be 100% about the monster action, couldn't have cared less about the human stories. That's thankfully changed in the last few years, though. I watch the movies for the whole package, not just any one aspect of them.

My policy on camp has done a 180 of late, too. I used to be pretty against Godzilla's cartoonish, superhero portrayals in the later Showa movies, but that's changed. I've learned not to take that stuff seriously, and find it a lot funnier these days.

...And, by that definition, how are the Heisei and Millennium series any less "fake looking" than the Showa series? At least the effects in the Showa series were consistent, unlike the Heisei and Millennium series.
