How Did You Become a Godzilla Fan?

I know there are probably other threads like this, but none have been used in the last few months. Anyway, what the title says. What made you become a fan of the Big G? For my part, I've always been a huge fan of dinosaurs. As a little kid I watched The Land Before Time and Jurassic Park until my parents could recite both movies from memory.

I was aware of and liked the idea of Godzilla as a concept for years before actually seeing one of his movies. A giant, fire-breathing, city-smashing dinosaur. How awesome is that, y'know? I remember drawing pictures of generic giant T-Rexes with spikes and calling them 'Godzilla', or calling my toy dinosaurs 'Godzilla' when I'd have them attack buildings or whatever. So in a way I've been a fan all my life. Actually seeing King Kong vs Godzilla at my cousin's birthday party in '96 just sort of made it official.

After that, my dad (a fellow fan, if not quite to our extent) rented me a bunch of the movies on VHS from Blockbuster, and found some of the early fansites for me. I've been varying levels of obsessed ever since.

That was my first G-movie too.

I remember in third grade we had big books filled with stories and backround info about them. One of the stories was called(not kidding)Dogzilla. There was a little backround about Godzilla and we watched GINO in class(yes,third graders watching a PG-13 movie in school). I remember I had already seen GINO as a little kid but for some reason I was scared to watch the movie in third grade while I was fearless as a toddler.

After this,I wanted to know more about Godzilla. I knew who he was before the story I read because my grandparents rented Tokyo S.O.S for me but I was too scared to watch it. So I rented Son of Godzilla aswell as GMK and the rest is history.

For some reason,I always thought that Zilla was what got me into Godzilla,but really,it was the story.

When I was a kid, my mother would actually tell m this stupid ass story that actually amazed e as a child. She said that when she was scared of being in the dark by herself as a child, she used to imagine Godzilla was under the bed, ready to protect her if anybody came into the room to harm her. As a kid, and not being introduced to any Godzilla film at that point, I was amused about how crazy that sounded. But it was her security blanket. She told me that story so many times that I was curious of Godzilla. One day at Toys "R" Us, I saw Godzilla vs. the Cosmic Monster on VHS and had her buy it for me. We watched it together, and then the following week TNT actually had a MonsterVision marathon full of Godzilla movies including Godzilla King of the Monsters, Godzilla vs. the Thing, Godzilla's Revenge, and Terror of MechaGodzilla. I don't think I realized how much I was into it until he died at the end of King of the Monsters and I cried for like 4 hours lol. Had to follow up after that...

That had to be 1994 because I started reading G-Fan and they were talking about Godzillavs. Space Godzilla coming out in Japan and being terrible lol.

Like any very young boy I was into dinosaurs and watched all kinds of dinosaur or similar movies/shows, had the toys, etc. Godzilla was among them. I was exposed to Godzilla before I even was retaining memories so I unfortunately cannot even remember what my first Godzilla movie was.

I watched the OLD Godzilla cartoon with Godzuky when I was little, and then I got into the movies shortly after.

I don't remember what age I was but it started when I found Godzilla vs Biolante on Youtube.

I was 5 years old when I first discovered my first Godzilla film (which was 22 years ago). My father loved Godzilla and decided to surprise me by getting a few G films. Godzilla vs Gigan, Godzilla vs The Thing, Godzilla vs Monster Zero & Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla (1974) and from then on I was hooked

I don't exactly remember when I first heard of Godzilla. My first movie was Destroy All Monsters which i saw in the theater when I was 5 in 1968. Invasion of the Astro-Monster and Son of Godzilla were played on TV all of the time back then. That is when I became a fan. That was 43 years ago!

This is very similiar to "how long have you been a fan". But anyways- Probably a love of Dinosaurs as a child, and seeing the Hanna-Barbara cartoon and King Kong vs Godzilla when I was 3-4 years old (1979-1980).

An old friend of mine introduced me to Godzilla during kindergarden. My first Godzilla film was Godzilla's Revenge IIRC, secondly was Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla and third was Godzilla 1985. Godzilla 1985 is what really got me hooked.

I was at least two years old in late 1993 or 1994 were I remember going to the video store and I found a VHS copy of Godzilla: King of the Monsters. I was already a big Dinosaur lover thanks to Land Before Time and Jurassic Park at the time. I think my second Godzilla movie was Godzilla 1985 or King Kong vs. Godzilla? It been nearly 20 years and hard to believe I have been a fan for that long.

Oooo. Same thing happened to me a few years back.... Have you turned into a giant monster under a full moon yet?
I'm like a cross between SpaceGodzilla, and meltdown Godzilla.

I guess you are the youngest person in this thread? Youtube didn't start recently in 2005 or 2006. Some fans here have been fans for over 20 years.
