What 2 monsters do you see as rivals?

ie. Godzilla and King Ghidorah.

Anguirus and Gigan

I think there was a line in the American version of KKvsG speculating that Kong and Godzilla were instinctive rivals. They certainly didn't waste any time in attacking each other when they met. And when Godzilla had the upper hand in the second battle, he was obviously pretty dedicated to making sure Kong was dead, burying him in boulders and lighting the forest on fire around him.

I see Anguirus and Rodan as being friendly rivals. They both certainly seem to want to be Godzilla's second-in-command.

^ Nah, Rodan was probably happy being his own boss. When he worked with Godzilla, he usually contributed pretty well in the battle, rather than acting as a sidekick. He's Godzilla's equal.

I suppose Mothra and Battra would count as rivals, right?

Didn't they actually fight together?

Maybe Mothra/Megaguirus?

^ They never met, though. But yes, I'm sure they wouldn't be terribly fond of each other if they did come into contact.

Does Heisei Gamera and the Gyaos count? He was created specifically to kill them, if memory serves. I don't know if 'rivalry' is the right word, but they clearly don't get along.

Hey, the more the merrier.

Generally, a rule of thumb is the opponent that the monster fights very often.

You can have more then rival so I would say King Ghidorah and Mechagodzilla are both Godzilla's arch-nemesis.

Rodan vs. Megaguirus makes more sense.

Godzilla vs. Ghidorah, Kong, Mechagodzilla, etc.

Mothra vs. Battra

Anguirus vs. Gigan

Jet Jaguar vs. Megalon

Minilla vs. Gabara, Kamacuras, Kumonga, etc.

Earth monsters and space monsters.

Seriously Zone Fighter and the alien "spirit" in GTTHM are like the only beings from another world that don't seem to bear ill wills to humanity or Earth's monsters.

Godzilla and Zone Fighter seems to be the only good Earth/space monster team and Megalon and Gigan seems to be the only evil Earth/space monster team (free will wise so Titano and Mecha G don't count).

Very well put Kaiju-King42. In The Return of King Ghidorah script that was never used, it semed that Gigan was written as a Rodan rival. It's to bad that never came to be. Showa Rodan vs. Showa Gigan would have been a good match. (Although the way it was described, it sounds like Rodan had a relatively easy time with Gigan.)

Has anyone else noticed Earth monsters and space monsters seem to hate each others guts, almost to the point of pure prejudice?

I can't think of many. The only true "rivalries" involve Godzilla himself. He has encountered King Ghidorah, Mothra, and Mechagodzilla numerous times, and the matches are usually heated. I'd say those are his top three rivalries.

I have. It's like some form of intergalactic racism.

I would say that its "normal". If someone came to your house or neiborhood and destroyed most (if not all of it)
wouldnt you be pissed about it. But Godzilla doesnt "care" for Japan or Countries that way but think
you all know what i mean.

I'm just saying that aliens and earth monsters come off as rivals to each other, like rival "groups". Aliens and Earth monsters working together is rare on either the good side or bad. Megalon/Gigan and Godzilla/Zone Fighter are really the only time an E.T. has teamed up with an Earth monster. There's also Titano and Mechagodzilla but that involved mind control so that really doesn't count.
