No, not really. I'm not 'in your face' about it, but I wear shirts and stuff.

Nope. I remember when i was in 2th Grade i brought Mothra Vs Godzilla to the class and we watched it (My teacher allowed
a "Movies Week") and they enjoyed the movie. It was a good experience and that way most of them knew that i was a
Godzilla fan. But later time like High School, I didnt mention it and pass through it with no "Make fun o whatnot"
but im not embarrased, Im Proud of being a Fan but im not to scream it to everyone i meet.

I don't wear my love for Godzilla on my sleeve or trumpet the fact that I love him.

I rank that as "kinda."

Nope. Everyone I know knows I'm a Godzilla fan and nobody cares or cared. People may joke with me about it but never to the point of saying that it sucks.
I was mentioned in the SciFi Japan article about the appearence of extras on the Godzilla vs. Megalon DVD.

And why is that?

Let's see:

"I want Legendaryzilla to be dark! People will take Godzilla seriously then!"

"Ahhhrgh! This idiot has a different opinion than me!"

"Godzilla vs. Megalon is the sole culprit of Godzilla's reputation, damn it to Hell!"

"Godzilla needs to be succesful with mainstream audiences"

"Mom! The teacher won't let me have Godzilla toys in my desk!"

Yeah, that's why.

A series directed at children is going to have some of it's fans act childish (most likely because they are children).

They'll grow out of it.

No, not really. Generally speaking, most of the people I hang out with are all "geeks" for something. I don't mean that in a derogiatory way either. Some of them like anime. Some like wrestling. Some like to play role-playing games. Some like Star Wars. Some all of the above. But I'm more regarded as being a "movie" geek than specifically a Godzilla fanboy but in my more specific movie geek circle, I'm generally viewed as the Godzilla enthusiast.

I am not embarrassed by being a Godzilla fan. Many of my friends find my fascination with the Big G interesting rather than repulsive and have come to appreciate the original films more so than the American one that they were all too familiar with before.

Oh? Children are innocent. Such complaints seem to come from the people who don't want Godzilla to be geared towards children. It's as silly as it sounds, but these people exist; and their behavior is embarrasing.

I used to be kind of embarrassed, but now not at all.

The fandom seems more than a little schizophrenic about this issue: Does nobody care about Godzilla, or does everyone hate Godzilla? I know neither of them are true, but both theories tend to pop up a lot.

I think it's because it is a very select fanbase. Mainstream moviegoers acknowledge us but dont respect us (even though G movie are usually better than the shit Hollywood pumps out).

Not at all. Those that know I watch Godzilla films don't care, and I know a guy older than I am who likes Godzilla.

Well, when I mean "children", I mean 12 and up. Of course a 7 year old doesn't care if Godzilla is dark and serious and to be mainsteam. However, a middle or high school student who is insecure about his interest might see it as a way to "legitimize" his interest. Most likely not even consciously.

I'll admit, I used to feel that I wanted Godzilla to be mainstream. I fantasized that GMK got a theatrical release and imagined it doing well financially and critically. That was in 6th grade.

I don't really see the phenomenon as negatively as you do. People are conformist in nature, and Godzilla is very different from other franchises in many ways.

Not that I don't agree with some of your points but being underground is very overrated, this franchise could use more finical successes.

No. Mainly because I don't talk about it, or mention it to anyone. It's not like anyone really cares.

There was a wonderful topic a while ago, where some kid said he was bullied for being a Godzilla fan. Where in truth, he mentioned his fanboy lust for the Big-G at inappropriate/not socially acceptable times.

I see no need to be ashamed of being a part of any fan base, as long as you’re not some autismal fool who can’t go ten minutes without mentioning your nerd hobbies in conversation.
